I have owned one for years; my most used lens. I purchased it to replace the 17-85 a bought with my first digital camera which was not a great lens. The 17-55 is sharp across the field, has good contrast and is well controlled for flare. The build quality is very good but not up to the standards of the L series lenses I own.

Thanks

I love this lens, it has now become my walk around lens, sharp as a tack.

My favorite walk around combo. Bought the lens years ago to go with the newly announced 20d and have used it on every model since then. Took it apart a while back to clean the dust from inside the objective lens and find it as good as ever. It was soaked during a terrific rainstorm while photographing waterfalls on a boat trip out Milford Sound, NZ. Let it sit unused for several months before starting to use it again.

Thanks

I don't have one in my kit right now, but the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM is an excellent choice.

In fact, so long as you are using an APS-C camera, it's a MUCH better choice than the EF 17-40mm f/4L USM...

The 17-55mm has a wider range of focal length, is a stop faster, has image stabilization AND has better image quality!

The 17-40mm is an "L", so you get a red stripe and it comes with a lens hood included.

Usually the EF-S 17-55mm sells for more than the EF 17-40mm. But Canon has recently discounted the 17-55mm more than I've ever seen, a $330 instant rebate brings it's price down to around $550. Keep in mind that it doesn't include the lens hood, so add another $49 if you want the Canon OEM hood... or there are cheaper third party hoods like Vello that sells for $20. (17-40L is currentlly selling for $499 after a $300 instant rebate... but it's typically been selling for only a little more than that for a couple years now.)

Excellent. Had one for my T2i. My grandson is now enjoying both. Great carrying around lens.

Bought mine in 2010 to use with my original 7D - Currently using it on my newly acquired 90D - Great all around lens for me.

I've used my 17-55 2.8 for several years with my 7d mkII. It's a nice walk around lens. I'm pretty happy with it. I've taken some nice shots with it. I seem to get better results outside. I've never thought I got great shots with it indoors. That might just be me.
