I have a Wacom medium and use it with LR, PS as well as with DXO. It takes spending enough use to create muscle memory, but I find it useful. I also use a gaming mouse set up for each of the programs I use. Killer combo!

I just picked up an iPad Pro 11 and an Apple Pencil. It wasn’t cheap but I love being able to edit anywhere.

Looking into buying a wacom for photo editing and I'm confused with the many models and prices. I usually work in Lightroom Classic. My mouse drives me crazy when trying to make small movements.

Thanks,

Do it! I love mine. Have used it for at least 20 years. Bought my first one in 1998!

Thanks for all your thoughts. I was looking a Wacom Intuos drawing tablet on amazon model ctl4100 for 79.00 but then I see all the other Wacom's that sell for much more. Wondering if the ctl4100 will work.

What do the reviews say on Amazon? I have a very old Wacom Intuous 2 which has worked flawlwssly for the past 12 years. Try it and see. Send it beck if you don't like it. For 80 bucks you have not got a fortune invested!

This triggers a question in my mind for those in the know - do the smaller tablets have a lower resolution than the larger, more costly tablets in a given brand (e.g., Intuos)? The problem I have with a mouse when using it in PP is that extremely small or fine movements of the mouse tend to be erratic or less precise than I would like on screen. I’m hoping a tablet would have finer resolution than the mouse and be easier to maintain a line of direction than a mouse. Also, in such movements a stylus would seem to feel more natural than a bulky mouse in the hand. But if the smaller tablets are less expensive due to lower resolution then I may have to opt for a larger one to get the results I’m seeking.

Not an issue. If you need more resolition you simply view the image larger. With my tablet I can edit individual pixels if I want to. I have a 6" x 8" area tablet. Don't need anything bigger. Here is an example first photo is the dog face = already cropped from a larger frame, second is the enlarged eye with a small yellow spot made with the Wacom stylus of about 5 pixels in diameter, indicated by the arrow. THAT is how detailed your edits can be!

I have an Intuit that isn’t expensive. The pad is about 6x8 but you can change the settings to making a smaller area the you identify as the active part of the pad. I knew when I bought it I would have a learning curve to overcome before I would be as comfortable with it as I am with my mouse. My biggest problem is that I’m always in a hurry with limited time to practice Any post processing (guess I spent too much time here or at work). Most people I know that use wacom tablets have told me it takes getting use to...I’m still working on that. Good luck in your decision.

Last year I bought the Wacom Intuit Art tablet which was about $100 CDN. The instructions to set up the tablet did not apply for my model it seems so I was not able to set it up and it is has been just sitting in my office. I tried in vain to contact Wacom for help but they did not provide any help. Looks like I just wasted $100.

So, it's not plug and play. I'd hoped that all you had to do was load the appropriate drivers, key the pad to the size of your application workspace and go with it.

Maybe someone here on UHH can provide explicit instructions that you can use.

I had no problem at all installing mine. I think some people are not comfortable with some types of media. To me this was as natural as using a pen or pencil, but then I do have some artistic talent and have done a lot of drawing and painting in various media.

I don't care if it's LR or PS I can't live without my Wacom. I have the older model Intuos 4 Medium and love it. I did however just buy, but haven't used yet, a Huion H610 Pro V2 Graphic Drawing Tablet which gets good reviews at a 3rd of the price. You may want to get started there.

Hey Russ. Great to see you're still around. I got a large Wacom about six months ago and not doing all that much editing, I have been circling the sucker ever since trying to decide if I want to mess with it or not. I may, given your info, trade it for a small one and see how that goes. Thanks!

Hi Old timer......
If you have the large you can just remap it to make it small. You still take up more space on the desk with the large....once remapped they're all the same....
Glad you're still kickin!

Cintiq is a sub for a moniter and gives you maximum control over just about everything...make sure that you calibrate the screen also
