It is early season for visiting Wako but we went anyway and saw the usual bird suspects - but not that many. A couple GBH were in courting postures and they are usually the first to nest there.

This Iguana showed up on the main nesting island and there were a few birds on the island also. It is an interesting thought as to how the Iguana got there - as we did see several Alligators in the surrounding waters ! It is hard to imagine that the Iguana is not detrimental to the birds nesting !

Sony A99, Minolta 500 f8 AF reflex (mirror lens) from monopod, 1/640, ISO 1250 with a medium crop. You can see the characteristic donut shaped bokeh in the backround. This was the first time I have used the 500 Reflex lens with the A99.

Man! Did you ever capture the “decisive moment” (NOT a question!)

A magnificent image of a magnificent creature in is peak of defensive display.
Incredibly effective pose for breath-taking impact.

Cartier-Bresson would be mightily proud of you, Larry!

I would suggest adding a level of background content fill above that top edge where the tip of a crest spine reaches the edge.

Otherwise I cannot recall ever seeing a more impactful, technically superb portrait of an aroused iguana than this one.

With your permission I would like to download this image to keep in that special file for use in my classes and workshops, and to which I take recourse when inspiration is waning!

It is testimony to the excellent results that can be expected from that Minolta 500 mm reflex lens. It has long been one of the favorites among my stable of long lenses to use with my A99.

I am lacking words to fully express my sincere admiration of this image.

A large, well prepared print, with the mentioned content-aware fill at the top deserves to compete in a show. My bet it’s destiny is “in the ribbons”

Thanks for posting.
Made my day...and then some!

Dave

I'm very impressed with your image quality off the Minolta 500. I have the same lens and don't consider it all that great for image quality!

A splendid capture of this other-worldly creature, Larry. You caught him striking an impressive pose.
