I'm now thinking Cooper's hawk. I looked up how the "Sharp Shin" got it's name. It has a keel on the leading edge of it's shin. No such ridge can be seen in the photo of it's leg that I posted above. Hence Cooper's hawk it is.

Actually it is a very elaborate RC Drone built by the computer geek kid three houses over. He is now out on an ATV searching the area for his expensive home built toy. If you see him tell him what direction it was headed when you last saw it.

not a Red-tailed, no belly band. Probably not a Buteo. My best guess would be an Accipiter, a juvenile sharpie. "All accipiters show bright white spots on back when feathers are fluffed" (quote Sibley) The yellow above the beak and eyes say juvenile. Lack of the white above the eyes eliminates the Northern Harrier and size compared to leaves says sharpie not cooper.... Sharp-shinned Hawk

I took this photo moments before it regained it's wits and flew away.

Based on the tail configuration it is a Sharp Shinned Hawk. Very common in the Northeastern States

I believe it is a Cooper's Hawk but could be a Sharp Shinned.

There's not one picture in that link that even remotely resembles the bird here.

Not a red tail. Yours has horizontal stripes on the tail. Most red tails I've seen have solid tail feathers.

My guess is a northern goshawk.
