I have a camranger that works well with my older Canons. They have a smaller version that just came out. You can view the images and operate the camera from your iPhone or pad. I also have a Canon R. This camera and I think some of the newer Canon DSLRs allow you to operate the camera and view images on your iPad or iPhone. The only problem with this process is that it runs down your camera battery if you sta connected to the iPad for a long time.

I am a newbie so please pardon me if this question has previously been posted.
I recently purchased an iPad and would like to know what software, app and camera body is required (Bluetooth or hardwire connection) in order to observe pictures in real time as they are taken. I am presently in the market for a camera body that can couple with an iPad for this purpose. I saw a professional portrait photographer recently using this setup but he was tightlipped about the hardware and software needed.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum.
I have an iPad Pro and this is interesting to me. I will follow this.
Good luck and again, welcome to the forum.

The Canon Pocket Camera Series Sx700 & higher series also work wirelessly with the app Canon Connect!
I know my son wirelessly links his iPad with an a6400, I never have had a need to, but now I’m curious too. As far as I remember it was live.
I use Canon Camera Connect Works great. You can actually take pictures right off the screen on your pad triggering remotely
If you are near an Apple Store, someone there might have techy advice. Some of the modern cameras can connect over a WiFi network. The camera has to be able to broadcast a signal that the iPad can receive.

Hi Bruce,
I shoot portraits tethered in two different ways, depending on where I’m photographing. If it’s indoors and I’m not moving around, I connect directly into Lightroom with a USB cable to a laptop and the bigger screen is fantastic.
When I’m doing portraits outside or where I need to move around more, I use the original CamRanger. This creates a Wi-Fi network between the camera and iPad and it also works pretty well. I find it’s really helpful to hand my iPad to mom as I photograph her child’s senior photos- as she can keep an eye out for closed eyes, flag poses she liked, and keeps her from being so close to her child that they aren’t comfortable. It takes a second or two (longer if shooting Raw) to send the image to the iPad, but to me, it’s a great workflow and the big screen makes reviewing focus and exposure so much easier. Hope that helps and good luck!

Btw, let me just add that the CamRanger is a great solution. The original model, which I have supports Canon and Nikon cameras, while the 2nd model adds Fuji and Sony. It’s about $200, but it has great range, gives you complete camera control, has nice features like an intervelometer and doesn’t use the camera battery.
I have the Canon Connect program on my iPad and my iPhone..... and use it all the time with my 6D Mark2. Can't really complain as it works pretty darn good.
