I thought the strange drill setup was part of the "ambiance" of the shot.

I arrived in the workshop after it had been set-up and folk were already clicking away - bit late to dive in and start changing things but, really, who on earth thought that a legitimate operation??

Yeah, that’s the Achilles heel of this image - you can tell an engineer didn’t set it up! I did consider photoshopping something more likely. Many thanks got keeping me on my toes - must go the extra mile!

It isn’t the venue that leads my attention astray. . . .

I assumed it was the attempt to drill a hole in a compression spring??

Or, perhaps after the fact. You never know what will spring up if you drill into nothingness. A spiral quark is likely possible in the quantum world.

Hmmm, perhaps I’ll just turn it into a solid, it will be easier on my brain!

Another from a group shoot. A small amount of compositing - the window view, shoe reflection and a texture - but to get it looking the way I wanted took a lot of Ps. Small details such as the flame light from the heater, skin retouch, dodge and burn and removing minor distractions take a lot of time - and some experimentation. Was it worth it? I think so - what are your thoughts on it please?

Initially I thought that the bright windows were a bit distracting so I tried to darken them. The result had a lot of artifacts that detracted from the image. I expect that could be mitigated but the general effect of the darkened windows didn't seem to improve anything in my opinion so I didn't pursue it further.

Hope those are steel-toed pumps given the proximity to rotating machinery.

The windows were completely burned-out in the original, what you see outside is a replacement. I did think of putting a night scene there but decided against. Darkening in the way you tried will bring some problems with it, not insurmountable but too much effort for the gain I feel. Thanks for trying though, your interest is appreciated. I don’t think a health and safety assessment came into this set-up - but nothing was ‘live’ of course!
