Bill, I believe you are over reacting and also not entirely correct.
There was a problem but it never affected all the D600s. One,There were and still are many happy owners that never had the problem (I'm e pluribus unum) and in truth they were the majority. The inter net as usual blew the issue way out of proportion.
Two, Nikon offered to replace the shutter on all affected cameras and as pointed out above will honor that until Jan. 2020. If a particular camera proved to be not repairable then they often replaced it with a D610. But that isn't a guaranteed resolution.

A D600 was the last DSLR I bought before switching to Olympus mirrorless equipment. Got it used at my local camera store, and it came with the service papers from Nikon showing the shutter had been replaced. It was the best digital camera I had used up to that point (all my others had been DX bodies, but all of my lenses were holdover "real" lenses from my Nikon film days.) I'm sure I would still be using it if I hadn't handled some of my friend's mirrorless equipment and realized how much smaller and lighter it was - at my age, that was very attractive.
If I were looking for DSLR equipment again and could get a D600 at the price indicated, I'd grab it in a heartbeat if it was otherwise clean and didn't have too many shutter activations.

I just finished packing up my D600 to send to Nikon. I submitted the serial # and they said it qualified for the recall. Figured I might as well while the service is offered.

A full frame camera with 24 mp. For that price, it's still a great buy by today's standards.

Like everyone said as long as not grey market and low shutter count and no oil on shutter the price is great. I just got the d610 and love it. Pretty much same camera. I paid 450.00 and that was a great deal. They usually sell for 5 to 600.00. Enjoy

To answer the question if it is still a good camera by today's standards is absolutely yes, for stills photography. The shutter issue, as all things internet, was way overblown. Mine had the problem and I cleaned the sensor every so often and it got less and less until I had it replaced by Nikon. The focus system struggles some in low light especially compared to my D750 but image quality is equivalent. I actually like the grip better on the 600 than the 750.

Thanks for all the input. When i`m ready to buy or upgrade I have lots to choose from. I`ve also read some great threads about the d500 on here. The big debate between full frame vs crop sensor. Kinda like the difference between Ford and Chevy. They all still break down.

At this point I would look for a used D750. I went through 6 D 600's with bad shutters. My post are here a while back if you want to look.
Buy from a god dealer. KEH I picked up lens there, it is an older shift 35mm and it was like brand new.
