I was looking through Facebook Market place and saw a Nikon d600 for $375. I am not looking for a camera just yet, but was wondering if this camera is still a decent camera for today.
As long as the seller can provide documentation of the body being recalled and repaired by Nikon fixing an issue with the shutter splattering oil onto the sensor.

Not all Nikon D600 had this problem. I sent mine to Nikon and it was returned with a notation that shutter replacement was not required on this particular camera.
"...Facebook Market place..." Might be wise to ask the seller if they can provide their original invoice...
Lots of stolen cameras on the market... noticed you're located in MD... Baltimore isn't a place I'd like to visit anymore.... lived there many decades ago... a lot has changed... a sadly MD doesn't allow CCW permits
btw, B&H requires a photocopy of your Driver's License (or Passport) in order to sell to them...
There is a Stolen Photoequipment database available online if you have the serial number...
That price is a serious Red Flag...
Hope this helps...

As long as it is NOT a grey market body that is a wonderful price. Nikon will replace the shutter on ALL USA D600 bodies for free so you have no concerns there at all. Go for it, you will love the FF capabilities.
You can tell if the shutter has already been replaced by looking for a black paint mark up inside the tripod socket hole.

I believe this is no longer true.
I'm incorrect. The program expires as of January 10, 2020
wow, good to know about market place. I moved down from Ny to Md to escape the crime some 30 years ago. Seems like it`s getting worse all over. I don`t hardly ever go to Baltimore or DC anymore. I now live in Western Md. It`s a bit of a ride to Gaithersburg where I work but the rents are cheaper.
The fall up here is very beautiful, so many colors. I am close to pa,va and wv. Deciding where to go is the hard part.

That is correct, but the point is they are still replacing them for free NOW!
I use a D600 & it performs very well.
Ask the seller for the click count of the D600. If it's over 100,000 I would probably look for something at KEH or MPB.

Me, too. Well, I didn't actually send it because the serial number wasn't included in the recall. The second D600 I bought was included.

Same here. I've had mine for just over a year now, and it is my workhorse. I do mostly real estate photography and have shot over 150 paid jobs in that year.
Changing the dialogue slightly, most photographers I know talk about all the "great photos" they have taken with their "you name it" camera. Just a few days ago a true professional photographer (i.e. ALL his income comes from photography) commented to me that, "I made a lot of money with that camera." Think about that very different perspective; no pixel peeping for him; he delivers quality products and his repeat clients gladly pay him.
So, now I take a different view regarding my D600. I've made a LOT of money with that camera; over $30,000 in the year I have owned it. Not a bad ROI for the camera ($649.00 with 3,640 clicks) and a good Nikon 18-35mm lens ($189.99) that I purchased for $$890.38 ($50.40 sales tax) from a professional imaging supplies dealer in Baltimore a year ago.
And so, my advice to the original poster: check out the number of clicks, and if it's not excessive (e.g. > 200,000) then that is a great deal; go for it!
If the camera is in good condition without excessive shutter use, genuine import and it has not been recalled you cannot do better with that price.

The D600 had many problems with oil on the sensor, it was replaced by the D610. Nikon offered a one to one trade on the bad D600's back in the day. (you sent your D600 in and Nikon sent you a D610)
I would stay away from any D600 body.

Thanks for that, MT, I looked for the black paint mark on my D600 tripod socket and there it was.
