This assumes all professionals shoot Nikon Cameras.

...The standard lens trinity used by professional photographers: the AF-S Nikkor 14–24mm f/2.8G ED, the AF-S Nikkor 24–70mm f/2.8G ED, and the AF-S Nikkor 70–200mm f/2.8G ED VR II. These three lenses give you a huge range of focal lengths, from 14mm to 200mm, all at a wide f/2.8.

I think that what you actually heard was that 3 different photographers would name 3 different lenses as being best for any one particular shot!

Now, Mr. Fingar has pegged it right!

My personal trinity is (APS-C Cropper)
an older used EF10-22 usm,
the newest EF-S 18-135 usm-nano (much sharper than older IS)
and Sigma 18-250 (macro version)..

I have more as well, and the nifty 50 is always in the bag..
its very light and small...
If I could take only 1 it would be the 18-250, it is the mostest,
and lightest... (and always the nifty 50, the best 2 for 1 combo around) ---

(Yes I have a Tammy 18-400, heavier, and on my rig, is slower to focus and harder to use when light gets sketchy)

Different people will have different lens requirements.

You promised us insight and expertise, how do updates to dead threads from March 2019 deliver on that promise?
