But just imagine the fantastic pictures he got! : )

Remember. It is not so much about the gear. It is about the skill and talent of the artist

I went to Costra Rica with a 20 lbs camera bag.
I met this guy from another group and he was tooting over 60lbs of gear.
Here was his set up at the hotel.
20lb tripod, gimbal head, focusing rail, camera body, remote trigger. He said that he has to take a couple of days off when he gets home to rest up.

The Son of Popeye...

Did he show you any samples of his work?

I'll bet he at least gets his photos in focus, but the photo of his camera isn't.

Why is your shot of his gear out of focus? Maybe his heavier load would have solved that problem.

Although My setup doesn't include several of the options this fellow has, Mine is a bit more complex than just a tripod. 2 Ball heads, and 1 tablet mount, Just waiting on the cable. I realize it's going to be heavy (to a point) about the only time I'm going to need it is for detailed shots or long exposures other wise the camera would be in hand.

Who really cares what someone else does if it does not affect you personally? It's his choice. Did you compare images with him? Perhaps his gear allowed him to do something you could not do. It really does not matter anyway. I took three cameras, two long lenses, a shorter lens, and a sturdy tripod when I went to Costa Rica and got some very nice images with the gear.

The tripod weighs much less than 20 lbs. I have a similar, if not the same tripod and its weight is 4.5 lbs.

My last couple of trips have been lot of fun using one of these:

One of our members in our Photography Club has this camera. He’s always winning with his flower images using this camera. He says it can do automatic focus stacking of 10 images.

I’m on the lookout for a Black Friday deal on it.

Forgive me but I am not seeing 20 pounds of gear in the photo. But if that is what he carries to take his photos then why should anyone care.
