I would like to know if there is a way for me to GPS? locations I want to photograph at. I sometimes find them at the wrong time of day and would like to go back but often, on backroads for example, I don't know where I am. I use a Garmin GPS to get me out of there. What I would like to do is somehow mark where I am with a very brief description of what it is, bridge, barn etc. Any ideas?

Try My GPS Coordinates Pro. It's a smartphone app. Works very well, lets you save and email location info.

When you get to a spot you want to remember, mark it as a location on the GPS. On my Garmin, I touch the screen, and it lets me enter a name for the location. Then I can click on that location at some time in the future and go back there.

With Google Earth on your computer (not phone) you can preview any location in a photo realistic 3D view. See the position of the sun in any date or to time you specify. Here’s instructions https://fstoppers.com/apps/best-location-photography-app-you-will-ever-use-407515

Try the smartphone app Geotag Photos 2 and add location to your photos taken with any non GPS equipped camera.

My Garmin (which I don't use for photography) allows marking and naming way points. Yours probably does as well. Check your instructions. Mine is quite old, so probably different on the details.

Indeed Garmin devices have such a feature. Set the waypoint abd you can return. If hiking it is best to have a Garmin designed for this. As always RFM

Unless you are in a well populated area cell phones are usless - no service. My son lives in MT even some places along I-90 have no service.

Not sure about your question so I'm assuming your using the Garmin auto GPS for travel, if you get a Garmin E-Trex you can mark locations in the unit where you are among other nice features, made for hikers , small, 2 AA batts, I have mine better than 10 years, still works still has some old saved points in it, new ones are in color mine is B&W, If I understand what you need I think this is a solution, Bob.

I have been using GeoTracker on my Android, then import the track to LR, and auto synch the images. You must make sure the time is synced on the phone and camera

On a Garmin GPS just touch the indicator that shows your current position. It will give you the option to save it. Make up a name and you're done.

Your Garmin can mark way points very simply. Those way points are usually on your GPS map and it can lead you back to any of those waypoints/locations.

I have the Nikon GPS receiver on my camera, On1 has location in their new software. You can zoom right down to where you were standing.

I'm gonna try this but do you know if this works on any Garmin? I would suspect min is 5-6 yo. What model do you have?

Not clear on what you want. Do you want the GPS embedded with the picture file (geotagging) or just a mapping system where you can save GPS info?

Which Garmin do you have? The Garmin eTrex 10 can be used for both. Some of their sports watches (the Fenix 3) can also be used. You can then feed the data into your editing program and batch tag your files and use the GPS data with apps (like the photographer's ephemeris) to determine best time of day to shoot.

Garmin offers a free download called BaseCamp that allows you to download files from your (Garmin) GPS to your PC that time-stamps where you are at a given time. So long as you synchronize the clock on your camera with the clock on your GPS, these files allow you, using LR or other software, to automatically add GPS coordinates to your images.

Before you leave the location, take a shot with your cell phone. Supposedly you can turn on location tags and get the GPS coordinates when you view the photo later. Not working on mine for some reason, but it is probably something I have done wrong. Others do use the feature as I am suggesting it...
