I shoot to record images that are appealing and then enjoy sharing with friends and family. Learning how to be a better photographer is a quest and the result. is that there is some demand for my work. It is a hobby, not a business, but I enjoy the interest of other folks in what I see and do. At 76, I hope to keep moving and shooting for a while longer.

P.S. My daughter, ex-wife and I lived in Bryan for three years while I taught at Texas A&M, up on Yellowstone Drive.

Tomcat5153 - your walls are lovely. My office is covered with a hodge podge of photos, not my best at all, but the ones that have the memories hidden inside. I now have a goal when I redecorate: to have my place look like yours!

Survey question....

Photography is your passion,,, OK so you have invested a lot of money,,, and your family has survived many GAS attacks,,, you have several camera bodies and a trio of ā€œLā€ glass,,, you shoot a thousand shots a month, and spend hours in post processing.... So now what? What is the final goal? Where do all of these images go? Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't fall into quite the $ morass you describe, though HAD several cameras over the years, Yashicas, Canons, Nikons, Pentax, etc. had the "L" lenses, shot 3-D, slides, B&W, set up my own "lab", also "etc." and now Sony A7ii and print-on-metal........"final goal"? Is there one for stamp collecting? or "birding"? It's a "thing" we do......prints-as-Xmas gifts (less than 2 months away) prints-on-the-wall, custom Xmas cards & B-Day cards........maybe sell a few......easier than quilting. Less hectic than autographs. Not as messy as clay or painting. Fun to get THAT SHOT! That's all. Simple pleasures.

Though I can often decipher what initials stand for, I am at a loss for "L" glass.

Sometimes it has........to my wife? "Another camera? I thought you really liked the one you had!" "Well yeah, but THIS one..........." etc.

Another unique and astute CHG_CANONism that we can remark upon and perhaps all of us agree.

If the joy is in the process, does it matter where the physical/digital final result ends up?

I have done photography for many years from basic cameras to Leicas to rollies to digitals and darkrooms to lightroom and photoshop. It can be amateur or pro. I have done both, but at 87+years I do it for the pleasure of it. I can't think of a better reason. My wife (of 41 years) Used to process my work in the darkroom for me because she had a better eye for detail than me inspi6te the fact that my eyesight was much better than hers. When I lost her, was the only time that I sobbed in my adult life. As I write this I think Of the adventures we had, both overseas and at sea I think how much we cared for each other.

Doing photography over 5 decades as a hobby, I enjoy it. Family, friends and some organizations enjoying my work. My fun at this time is sports as I have 2 grandsons enjoying their sports. Over the years I have purchased and sold many camera bodies and lenses. I try not to get "gas" very often but when getting into sports I did purchase (years ago) a 7D markII for the sports purpose. Love that body for that, but for my family pictures I love my old 5DII. Am I a pro? "NO" but loving photography as a hobby and having family and friends enjoying my work is all I need to keep me going!!!
My wife passed away at a very young age (39) and the pictures taken are a great remembrance of our time together family gatherings, vacations and just fun. I still have our first good camera we bought and Olympus 35mm and still use it on occasion...
