In September and October of this year we finally made our long planned trip to France and Spain. My wife had made most of this journey before, but for me it was my first time in either country. We did not travel with a group, but just by ourselves. My wife had the itinerary well planned out. In France we visited Paris, including Versailles, as well as Lourdes. In Spain we visited Seville, Madrid, and Toledo.
I will be posting several installments of images so as to include some photos of each destination. In this first installment I am featuring the Arch of Triumph (Arc de Triomphe), one of Paris' most famous landmarks.
#1 I knew the Arch was a huge structure, but was a bit taken aback by the shear size of it.

#2 The Arch was built as a monument to France's victories in the French Revolution and the Napoleanic wars. There are many incredible inscriptions all around the interior.

#3 The Champs-Elysees from the upper level of the Arch

#4 The Sacre Coeur Basilica as seen from the Arch. That hill is the highest point in the city.

#5 Out first view of that other famous structure in Paris

#6 The eternal flame under the Arch honors France's unknown soldier killed in World War 1.

#7 Some of the intricate sculptures on the outside of the Arch

#9 Just a typical example of some Paris architecture

Thank you for taking a look and commenting. We did not visit Monet's gardens in Giverny, but we did visit the beautiful gardens behind the Palace of Versailles.

Thank you very much Carol for looking in and commenting. It was a great trip. There were some times when we were not sure if it would happen, but thankfully it became a reality.
