My sweet wife had similar problems when she loaded “CATALINA”. Apple should have warned folks. I won’t be down-loading it any time soon maybe never& and I will think twice before buying any more apple products. They have gotten too fallible....RJM

There have been many warnings on the internet including one from Adobe. Don't be upset at Apple just because you missed them.

For a review on buggy Apple software, read the recent issue of TidBits, a Mac (and PC) newsletter/website. Go to TidBits.com. They’ve been reviewing Mac and Mac related issues for more than 20 years.

From what I hear, Catalina is the problem. I’m staying away from it until I hear more.

That is probably why I have had no issues upgrading to Catalina. My hardware is current, well late 2015, and my software is current & 64 bit. The last one I worried about was Reiken FoCal, but they provided a 64 bit update in time.

I love how, despite many months of warnings, shown when obsolete soon to be unsupported apps were opened, users somehow missed them, even though they had to dismiss them.

It is the current versions of Adobe software which have problems with Catalina.

Thanks for the reply. I wish I had read this before I upgraded the OS.

Thanks for the advice. Last time I checked, I still have a pulse, but I don't recall any warnings. In addition, I spoke to three different Apple support reps and no one brought up the 32 bit issue.

Apple announced the 64 bit switch a couple of years ago.

I have subscribed since 1993. Adam and Tanya have done a fantastic job with it, enlightening Mac users weekly.

Apple has been warning users for well over a year that the newest version, Catalina, would not support anything 32 bit. Adobe software, other than their latest versions, will not work as they are 32 bit. Ols software becomes unusable at some point. Need any copies of WordPerfect? I predict, sooner or later, that Windows will drop 32 bit support as well. Best of luck.

Do you suppose that APPLE could not make Catalina support 32 bit? Why not?? Do you think?

Apple and Adobe do not concern themselves with each others business plans. People who take pictures are not a large segment of Apple's business. They probably felt that 32 bit was old technology. Adobe apparently knew of this upcoming change.

To me the problem is on the other end.
I have not upgraded to Catalina because of 2 software programs that I absolutely need:
The Print Shop for Mac and my security cameras thru Swann Security.

Both are very important to me as I have several Business Cards and flyers, if it was not a dedicated software to Mac I could see them not updating but THEY have known about this for over a year as well.
I have written to The Print Shop 3x and still have not been given a reply yet.
I may have to look at getting a new software, trying to wait it out for now, no rush to Catalina.

As to the cameras, that could be a bigger problem as when I called the Help line they had not idea what I was talking about.
Buying a new security system can be expensive.

I updated my Laptop to Catalina without any problems as that is dedicated to something else unrelated to the desktop with the 2 problems mentioned about.

Frustrating and waiting,

Windows is nothing but a poor copy of the Apple OS. That's why Microsoft paid up big time for it. You can be SURE they will follow.
