I'd say it's possible, but unlikely that a Lighthouse can be in a landscape.

If a lighthouse is not the main feature of an image, the image
is probably a seascape.

If the lighthouse is obviously the subject, of course it is not a landscape.

We have landscape and portrait mode with the camera. So a close up of a tall lighthouse is probably 'portrait' in order to get it all in frame.

Beyond that: Landscape is anything on land - seascape is anything with seawater

Technically? by the book?
Natural scenery.
Buildings are not "natural".
But That's too restrictive for me.
A pastoral scene with a barn, to me is a landscape.
A close-up of a lighthouse is a landscape.
I've seen lighthouses on rivers, so that would not be a seacsape.
Buildingscapes are in the city.
Seascapes are a subset of landscapes.
Buildingscapes are a subset of landscapes.
I consider "landscape" a general top-level term.
But, that's just me.

Not fond of Wiki, but not too bad, I think.

Landscape photography shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes.

So a vertical shot of Fall foliage would also be a portrait?

I think picture format and subject matter are getting inter-mixed here.
The same word is used in both instances.

Can someone please explain to me what is the point of this useless exercise in splitting already split hairs?

Participating in the discussion is keeping most of us off the streets and out of trouble.

Free and harmless entertainment, chit-chat by willing participants. You are free to leave the room at any time.

And you are free to create a new topic of substance. Almost three years of membership and zero topics? Why?

You bet. It's the first shot. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-614659-1.html

Based on what I said originally, I would say that the first shot is definitely not a landscape and the second is on the borderline; it is arguable either way.

Never had anything I needed to discuss. I have at time s needed some advice, but I don't want to have to spend more time sifting through the helpful and not helpful in answering a question. And many of the questions asked here are folks without a speck of basic photographic knowledge and little desire to change that situation. I'm totally out of the what's the correct lens for this kind of photo? questions, and the endless parade of A UV filter is required and a UV filter should never be used discussions.

This list has become far too like our political discourses have become. But I must say that you, Linda, have been a continual source of fresh air.

Once upon a time there were main forum discussion topics that were to teach and learn photography. Sharpshooter hosted several on composition back in 2014-2015, I hosted one on black & white in 2016, and I'm sure folks can find many more if they browse the archives.

Do you feel you have nothing to offer as a teacher here, or do you believe there is nobody around who would like to learn?

I believe I have a lot to offer, as one who has worked as a professional photographer from 1970 to just a few years ago. But to your second question, there are few here that will accept any advice that is contrary to their current beliefs. It's just like politics. Everyone wants to listen to discussions that they agree with and no one wants to listen to anything thought provoking. Every time I have offered my advice based on my experience it has been resisted by almost all.

It is what the viewer thinks it is. The dictionary says:
land·scape
/ˈlan(d)ˌskāp/

noun
noun: landscape; plural noun: landscapes; modifier noun: landscape

1.
all the visible features of an area of countryside or land, often considered in terms of their aesthetic appeal.
"a bleak urban landscape"
