I have had a Chase Amazon card for years, never a problem.

I have the same card and use it for all of my on line purchases.

I got one several years ago. I've had no problems, but I don't buy much on Amazon, so I don't use it often.

No Amazon CC but have both USAA and Cap One. Both are rewards cards and I pay off the balances every month. I use the Cap One & my wife uses the USAA. Don't see a need for any other CC. I get the offer every time I buy something from Amazon but the two cards are enough. One is a Visa and the other is a Mastercard, so if a vendor doesn't accept one, we have the other...

I have one and use it near daily as I buy just about everything I need from Amazon. Never had a problem with it. Love all the free stuff I get from the points I earn.

Every credit account I've ever applied for has required my social security number. It's a universally used verification of a real name that exists in federal government records, even though it's not supposed to be that way. You've got two choices--either provide your number to get the account, or you won't get the account.

The point of my post above is really that one doesn't need more than two credit cards. Having more can negatively affect your credit score. So, if the OP already has CC's an additional one is not needed...

That's not necessarily true. Your credit score is affected by the balance on all your cards vs the credit limit on all those cards. If you have a lot of cards with a low or zero balance you will have great credit. I had two cards four years ago when I moved back to the U.S. after living overseas for an extended period. My credit rating at that time was in the low 700s. I now have fourteen cards with a running balance only on two of them and my credit score is in the low 800s. Besides no black marks it's a high unused credit limit (i.e., available credit) that gets you a good score.

It's not the number of credit cards you have that affects credit score. It's how much of the available credit limit you are using and your long term history of paying on time.

Does anyone actually give out his/her SS number to get a credit card from Amazon that promises a ridiculously low price? If so, what were the end results? I have never given out my SS number, even in Avast Bank Mode. Been tempted but ------- Please share your thoughts on this.

They may be in violation of their agreement with the entity (bank, credit union, card company, etc.) issuing the card by requiring SSN. In any event, after seeing what goes on with credit card fraud in my 14 years with Visa, Inc., I would not give my SSN to anyone who collects point of sale information. Some of the largest breaches have involved personal information that was kept in violation of the prohibition against retaining personal data associated with the individual transactions. What has not been publicized is the amount of the fines that Visa has imposed and collected because of violation of the contracts. Needless to say, it has been many millions of dollars.

I have the card also and have never been charged interest, even though I use it only once or twice a year (but I am careful to pay the balance on time.) My only unpleasant surprise was using it at ATM to get cash one night. I was buying a lens from an individual for >1K$, and my bank debit card had a limit of $500 per day, so since I knew the PIN, I withdrew the balance on the Amazon card while at the ATM on my way to do the deal, and I was shocked at the surcharge (which showed up as a cash advance when I payed the balance the following month). Lesson learned
I have the card also and have never been charged i... (show quote)

Thank you TriX. I will only be using this card to get some off on Amazon purchases. I use a debit card for some things and cash for others. I have, on rare occasions, written a check.

Thanks for responding 2Dragons. It seems as if the vote has been won by all the no problems responses.
Now, if I could only find what I'm looking for on Amazon. They either don't have the product, or it's way overpriced, or there are only 3rd. party sellers for my wanted item/items.

Thank you for replying to my post. I probably won't be using it a lot either because they don't seem to have the items I'm looking for, and if they do it's at least 3 times what the item should cost. I have been using a Visa debit card for my few purchases.

I am presently using a Visa debit card and it has been sufficient for my needs but I don't get any special deals with this one, which is one reason I am looking into the Amazon cc. At my bank, I was told that a cc would be safer. Someone from Maine managed to get my card number and tried to make some purchases at a Walgreen's. I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get that fixed. My card never leaves my scan proof billfold so that one's a mystery. Thank you for responding and your input Scott.

Thank you tomad for responding. That is what I'm looking forward to if I can find the products I want to buy. I have made quite a few purchases from Amazon and most have been reasonable but for some reason the ones I'm trying to buy now are outrageous.
