Lucky encounter and you had your camera.
We have them around here but I have never seen one.
What a wonderful encounter.
Your lucky day. Great shots of an animal I have only seen once in my life.
Pretty fair captures imho, of an (now very rare) encounter with
a (starving) native cat...
we have overpopulated the planet and over used
and degraded the resources of Gods other creatures.
At some time in the not too distant future social order will break
down (more?) simply because there are too many people for this
planet. The human race will have no choice but to resort
to the law of the jungle unless the human population ceases
to increase.
The solution is so incredibly simple: Don't have more than 2 children...
2 children to replace their parents equals zero population growth.
The longer we wait to do this, the worse mother earth and human society will be.
If you can't see this, you are profoundly blind.
I've said it all before... I feel like shouting it from the rooftops.
What a great encounter and you certainly made the best of it. Beautiful photos.

Awesome set of images.
Jack, I consider myself very lucky to have come face to face with this attractive creature and to have been given the time to snap a series of pictures in several poses. What a face! Thanks for your kind comment.

Stash,
Most of my meanderings through the less-than-urban areas are for birding and photography. I was looking for a Loggerhead Shrike at Irvine Regional Park, walking slowly and quietly, when I looked up and saw this Bobcat. Since I returned home yesterday, I've taken some time to do some reading about this smallest of the world's Lynx species (along with the Canada Lynx). It's fun to learn...just as it's fun to have such an encounter and to capture such photos. Have a great day and weekend.

Yes that is a Bobcat , not Lynx

Saxman,
So true...all luck. Now we're even...1 sighting apiece. Thanks for the kind comment about the photographs. They could have been a tad sharper, but they're what I've got and I'll keep 'em. jak
Thanks, Abo. Just for the record, I do not believe this Bobcat was there because it was starving. The area is replete with rodents and small reptiles and is located in the foothills of a large wilderness area. It is known to inhabit that wilderness, so this was just a chance meeting of unrelated species. Have a good weekend. jak

John,
Thanks very much for viewing and for the kind comments. It was a real treat, which I will value for a long time. I was able to share the photos with my 3 year old granddaughter and her parents last night. She prefers videos (moving pictures), but her parents thought it was pretty neat. Kids are cool. Have a great weekend.
