Sigma 24-70 f2.8 ART lens

Checked it out at the store in Nikon F mount. It's very nice and the price is right but I am not so sure I will get it because it wouldn't work on my film cameras.

I just tried out the Sigma 16mm lense on my Sony a6000. I couldn't manually focus as the barrel just sput with no changes. However the auto focus worked quite well. Is this a defective lense or am I doing something wrong.
