Why would anyone spend $4,500 on this camera when, for example, they could buy a new Fuji X-T3 MILC for $1,399?

Is this Sony Camera REALLY that much better? I realize many people are married to their brand of equipment, but sometimes I just have to scratch my head when I see disparities like this.

OK, please enlighten me. Please try to minimize the attacks. I am really just trying to understand.

I saw a brand new, on Sale, unused Fuji XT-2 at a camera shop this past August. The photo shop had not received the newer XT-3. Which I thought was unusual. I was impressed with the XT-2. Fit nicely in my hands. The XT-3, is most likely a better camera. And, I wouldn't mind owning either of them. I have not heard of Fuji cameras, being an exclusive pro sports camera. I may be wrong about this? Also, on this forum, there was a complaint about the LCD screen turning pink, on both the XT-2/XT-3s. A problem corrected, if you knew how to remove it. I only shoot kids outdoor summertime soccer games, from the sidelines, using a Nikon prime 50mm f1.8 lens, and I shoot an occasional outdoor, late afternoon, High School football game, for the grandkids of one of my friends, with a 24 megapixels Nikon DSLR. Using both the 18-55mm kit lens and my 70-300mm lenses.

Do you think the A9II may have more under the hood that hasn't been implemented yet? Firmware seems to be doing a lot more these days that in the past would have required a new camera body.

It is interesting that most upgraded camera's are basically the same body with improved software, sensor and firmware only. Really keeps production costs down.

Look to Ebay for some good prices on used, mint A9's, as folks will be trading up for the A9II. I just picked up an A9 with grip and two batteries, boxes, manuals, complete, with less than 4K shutter count for 2 bills, much better than 5 bills for the A9II with battery grip.
Make sure that the A9 either has, or you can update firmware to the newer eye focusing system.

Thanks for the heads up on that info. But, I would have to sell all my Nikon Gear, before I would even attempt to do that. And, it still would be far away from my budget. You did well on the price paid on the D5, you acquired recently. A true pro Sports camera.

Buy what you think is best for you. Nobody cares about your camera except for you.

Yeah, I had a D5 last winter in Florida and liked using it early in the morning. But alas, I came North and sold it.
Missing it I got another. But I am very picky about buying used equipment. The second D5 I got had a 0 shutter count but only came as body only with battery, no charger. But I couldn't pass on it so I got the charger from B&H and to my surprise the charger came with an adapter for my Nikon D3s battery. Will wonders never stop.
Yes, the D5 is a sports camera but I use it for wildlife. It has served me well as just before coming North I ran across, or more correctly, a pair of Sand Hill Cranes and Colt almost ran into me in the parking lot of Loxahatchee National Reserve in Boynton Beach. They walked through the parking lot and I had the 70-200 2.8 on the D5. You had to watch your distance because the Cranes have feet that they will use on you if you get too close. The adult male saw his reflection in our black car and started to peck at it, fortunately it left no marks. I followed the colt in an effort to get it receiving grubs from the parents, to my delight the adult female grabbed a dragon fly as as she gave it to the colt I opened up with the D5 and got that once in a while shot. It was very early in the morning and I was lucky to have the speed king in my hands.
Yes, it will be an interesting winter using both the Sony A9 and my Nikon's. Let the games commence.

Expected to shipped in November and cost $4500.

In my opinion its not a significant upgrade over the original with new firmware. Canon and Nikon have yet to come out with anything that competes with previous version.

I’ll stick with my Fujifilm.

I recently attended the wedding of my cousin and had a few moments with the photographer. He was using two Sonys Mirrorless cameras. He truly loved them and tried to convince me to give up my Cannon 5D. I will think about it but I must lament that I'm a cranky old coot hell bent on playing with the toys...er!...camera models that I love.

It does look like a nice future for Sony though!

Its possible and perhaps probable. Who could have guessed that that animal eye and other improvements were on the horizon when purchasing the original A9 and A7R3? And at no expense.
