I suspect many - we seem to be an "older" crowd. I stole this from a Facebook post. I thought it might jog some enjoyable memories. It did for me.

I remember wanting one, but never having the money to buy one.Batteries were cheaper at that time.

Yep, remember them well. I didn't have one, but my brother had one on his Raleigh.

Very cool! I used playing cards and balloons. Neither of them lasted very long. I remember if you rolled your bike backwards the balloons would pop! Thanks for the memory!

In the 80's I used to run one on the back wheel and one on the front wheel of my Jenuet for the resistance when training. They would scream like a banshee.

Remember! Heck, have a boys and girls 1968 Schwinn Continental hanging in the garage, and each has one on. Still works too.

Yes, I remember those too. And we also used balloons, but mostly playing cards or even baseball cards in the spokes. Good times. Don't see any kids doing that today. I mean, I do see kids on bikes but not like when I was a kid in the 60's. I rode my Schwinn everywhere I went. Now I ride my Trek around the many bike paths we have here in MN.

Don’t get too excited folks, but you still buy one of these jewels. Simply search “friction powered bike lights” or something similar. Things is... once I got one, it was a PITA to use. The generator/dynamo too close and it would slow you down, little too lose and the light flickered. Fortunately, we moved on. 😏

Had one on my bike. Headlight had high and low switch. Much better than batteries.

Great memories, thanks. I also used balloons and cards on my bike as well as the generator for lights.

Like you I decorated my bike up for the local July 4th parades. I won first place when I was 11 and had first choice of prizes all laid out on tables. I chose a camera. I was told there were much better choices but I stuck with the camera.

That's what started my love of photography. I still have that camera, an Ansco box camera. Wish I still had that bike.

Yup! I had one. Along with my baseball cards on the spokes. I HAD a Pete Rose rookie card! Boy, did that sound cool going over my spokes! Ha! I could’ve retired with that one.

I rode my bike everywhere from age 8 to 20 (when I left home) and have no idea what this gizmo is. I'm an early Baby Boomer.

I remember these 'generators.' I rode a friends bike and like the light it generated but the drag on the tire was, well, a drag....LOL
