It's about 70 minutes from Vegas. Google it. The stuff you see from the road is okay, but the real treats are about a 40 minute hike. Lemme know when you're going. The hike is without a marked trail from behind the visitor center area towards the hills. Plan on spending 2-3 hours back there hiking in those hills. Do it late afternoon.

Thank you for the information. I will add this to my list for the next Vegas trip.

The Valley of Fire State Park is not far from Las Vegas. The blazing red formations are quite a treat to see either early in the morning or late afternoon when the light is very warm. The reddish-orange really pops in contrast to the surrounding, rather drab, mountains. The second image with the stairs is on the way to the Park.

Please download for proper color and detail.

Beautiful images.

You really captured the color accurately! Did you see “newspaper” Rock with all the petroglyphs?

We lived in Echo Bay in the early-mid '60s, before the North Shore Road, and drove through the south end of the VoF on the way to Vegas for groceries. I took a number of photos with 35mm, all of which managed to get lost in a number of moves. NO development in the Valley, but knew of plans for it. Enjoyed your series. Thanks for the memories!
