I've used mine on the hot coast of South Carolina, on short hikes in piedmont NC, and have it on my tripod at home all the time for hummingbird photos. I've never had a problem, love the lens.

3 years of desert, rain forest, glacier, equatorial savannah, frigid winter, below sea level, 15,000 feet, not a hitch.

I just got mine. No problems except for minor front-focusing, paired with my D7200. I was going to fine tune this afternoon but got lazy. Tedious stuff.

Hotter than hades here and no problems. Too heavy to carry though. Its a fool-proof lens imho.

I have used mine on hot dry days in southern California and on hot humid days in Delray Beach, FL at Wakodahatchee and had no problems.

Get it fixed by Nikon. This shouldn't happen at all.

I have 3 friends that own this lens. All 3 of their lenses failed them in a matter of days. During a hot humid period . At the 500mm position the zoom ring wouldn't turn lower than 400mm. The lens was stuck between 400 and 500mm. Some say the zoom got stuck because it was a hot day. I live in Montreal. Canada. Does this happen in Florida or other southern parts of the country, where it's even hotter climate. Anyone with this lens experience the same thing ?

They sent them to Nikon to get fixed, and they were, but don't really trust them anymore

I have had mine for about 3 months, no issues at all.
From all the positive feedback here I think this story holds no water.

Perhaps Canadian ones are different.

After all these positive responses we must conclude the 3 of you just got a bad batch...bought from same place/time?

No. I rented it first with intentions to buy it if I liked it. I returned it with a letter explaining all the issues and all I got was an email stating that the lens was working properly. I decided not to buy it.

I believe the comment you got, and I quote, "all I got was an email stating that the lens was working properly", says it all.
