Think I’ve had mine about 5 years and no issues. Haul it everywhere when driving and one time to Africa.

Nikon put out a recall on it just before my Africa trip. They paid both ways and got it back quickly. I think it had something to do with VR.

PS: my guess is they inadvertently hit the zoom lock. I know this because it has never happened to me (Ahem…🤬).

This isn't a zoom lock issue, at least not for me and I'm thinking not them either. It does zoom from 500 to about the 400mm mark. But then hits a physical stop (feels just like the stop when you zoom all the way out) on the way to Nikon now...
