I have 3 friends that own this lens. All 3 of their lenses failed them in a matter of days. During a hot humid period . At the 500mm position the zoom ring wouldn't turn lower than 400mm. The lens was stuck between 400 and 500mm. Some say the zoom got stuck because it was a hot day. I live in Montreal. Canada. Does this happen in Florida or other southern parts of the country, where it's even hotter climate. Anyone with this lens experience the same thing ?
They sent them to Nikon to get fixed, and they were, but don't really trust them anymore

I just got mine 3-4 weeks ago. Have shot a bunch of practice shots and one whole hot weather soccer match and not a glitch. Also just got my D810 back from Nikon repair and I have never had such fast focus and extremely sharp images as I get from with this camera and lens. I would purchase again. I also have friends that have this lens and love it. Thanks

Nikon has hit a home run with this lens. B&H has over 600 reply's on this lens. Please look them over. 98% of them are positive reviews. Some folks could walk on water and still complain they were not going fast enough.
I have had mine for over 3 years with no problems.

I am happy with all the folks who are saying positive things about this lens. It is simply a home run for Nikon, just like the D750 was.
I use the 200-500 off the D500 and have got excellent results from this lens and it continues to get outstanding results.
Shame on anyone who writes second hand stories and not first hand experience about this fine, outstanding product.

I live in Florida and have used it in hot summer conditions. Great lens. No problems.
I live in Miami and have never experienced any problems with this lens.
I believe this lens is one of the best values Nikon has. I cannot believe the quality and performance for the price paid. I would’ve had no problem paying more for this piece of glass. I use on my D5 as well as D850 with no issues for over 3 years. It is that good.
Me too. No problems with my 200-500
I believe, after reading all these responses, that the OP just needs to get three new friends.
Seriously, after a couple of years use I can report 'no issues'.
I have read that some folks trying to use the lens as a push/pull zoom have encountered issues.

First time I'm hearing this about this lens but don't have one...(I use the Tammy 150-600 G2)...it's supposed to be a great lens optically at least, and actually want to get one too, but there is no weather/moisture sealing. I think for ANY lens extended hot/humid conditions can be not so good. Changes from hot to cold and vice versa can cause condensation on the lens elements. Also long periods of hot sun can cause plastic parts to warp which is probably the cause here. Be sure to store the lens with lots of silica gel packs if using in hot, humid or damp conditions.

keep an eye on Nikon refurbished; be sure to subscribe to them; I bought mine at 10% off. Of course, after that, for the first time, they offered 20% off of all their refurbished items. The other day they had 25% off of about 65 selected items
I’ve had mine for 1.5 years, absolutely no issues with this lens. I have a hard time believing your friends story.
I've had a Nikon 200-500mm 5.6 for a year and a half. Great lens....never had a problem at all.
I have had my 200-500mm for about 2 years and have used it primarily in Georgia and North Carolina, in all seasons and times of day. Have encountered no problems... other than its weight
