I called you and you said you had 2 Nikon 500mm 5.6 lens in stock. I said I'll buy it, ship it to me.
You refused. You told me that lens was for local clients only. If I wanted to, I could drive 2000 miles and pick it up from your store.
I have ordered from at least 10 Nikon Authorized Dealers within a 500 mile radius of me and they ALL will ship Nikon camera stock to me no questions asked.
Your refusal to ship me the lens, I felt, was a slap in my face. As an old Nikon Rep. and a member of Nikon Professional Services, I felt I was not dealt with professionally, especially since you are a Authorized Nikon dealer and refused to ship the lens to me.
I still feel that way. How would you feel?
And on top of it all you resort to name calling as an excuse to act as a Nikon Authorized Dealer. Shame on you.
I called you and you said you had 2 Nikon 500mm 5.... (show quote)

Thats the beauty of owning your own business. You get to chose your customers based on their attitude and demeanor.

I bought my Nikon 500mm f5.6 thru Hunts Photo and Video. Try contacting Gary Farber or a member or a member of his marketing team at 1-800-924-8682 or direct at 781-462-2332.

If you cannot reach Gary try Alan Samiljan at 781-462-2383.

I buy all of my Camera bodies and lenses from Hunts. They are great to deal with.

Joe

Really? So, your a Authorized Nikon Dealer and YOU choose who to sell to based how you feel about the person you have never met? And you decide on "your perception" of their attitudes and demeanor? And you decide who NOT to sell to based on your beliefs toward a paying customer? In other words, you are the big fish in a very small pond? And since you have the equipment others want, you decide who gets what? I believe they call that DISCRIMINATION.
I wonder how Nikon will feel about your selling practices?
I wonder if B&H has the same business model?
You really want to take this to the next level?

KEH has none. Never has. Never even been a used USA version on Ebay, only a few grey market copies at rediculously inflated selling prices.

So many people say they wish they had a local camera store. If local camera stores competed with the big mail order companies and couldn't serve the local community, what would be the point? Good for you!

I had a back order through B& H, Nikon & Adorama since April...In desperation/ curiosity, I conversed with Steve right after he had gotten his 2nd 500....He clued me into ProCam.com in Chicago & Detroit where he had gotten his, knowing they had โ€œ a few leftโ€. I called them and 4 days later mine arrived. at that time (about 3 weeks ago), they had at least 1 more....Heed his advice...the bigger shops may have more of a back order, hence you wait more....

Not sure that anyone knows how Nikon decides where to send their limited supply of Nikon 500mm f/5.6 lenses, but one suggestion would be to call Nikon authorized dealers (preferably near you?) and ask how many people are on the wait list for this lens and add your name to the store that has the fewest people presently on their list (hopefully only 1 or 2). It is possible that Nikon prefers stores that ask for a deposit (at least the store where I got mine did take a deposit). So you may have to put down a deposit (unlike B&H). And pray! I too am loving the 500mm f/5.6 lens so hope you get yours soon. It does appear as if the supply is slowly catching up with demand.

I have had a purchase order in at B&H since June, 2019, for the new Nikon 500mm, PF 5.6, lens, but still have not received it. I saw Steve Perry's video on some ideas at where to look for the lens but that proved fruitless. I'm now asking if anyone else have had some luck getting the lens, or have an idea or suggestion where someone might have the lens. Lucky, Steve Perry has two 500mm lenses.

Thanks

I rented one in May and loved it. I asked if I buy one now when would I get it. The man replied you'd be lucky if you got it this year.

MTShooter,
I have watched this back'n forth with some interest. I live in Florida and do business with Cameta Camera in New York. I like to think I am one of their better customers even though I don't get to visit them very often. It never occurred to me that a local store would not sell me an item that was in stock and not being held for anyone in particular. While I can understand, it would be nice for the walk-in trade to be able to buy a hard to get item, I do not understand withholding that item from more distant customers while waiting for someone to come through the door. Is there a coherent explanation to this situation?

Doesn't involve ANY customer. Just those undesireable ones with a reputation of being a jerk.
