I believe Steve did a video on this. Try a local camera shop (one you can drive to 50-100 miles) call them and see if they have one in stock.

Bruce, are you happy with yours? I'm thinking of buying one.

I originally ordered 6 of these over a year ago. I got one immediately, one 3 months later, one in February and one in June this year. Still no word from Nikon when I might see the last two.
Very limited production with VERY high demand. Its a fantastic lens too!
BUT, you will not send that lens to anyone. YOU insist that folks come to your store and buy it.
I got mine at Cameta Camera.

I have had a purchase order in at B&H since June, 2019, for the new Nikon 500mm, PF 5.6, lens, but still have not received it. I saw Steve Perry's video on some ideas at where to look for the lens but that proved fruitless. I'm now asking if anyone else have had some luck getting the lens, or have an idea or suggestion where someone might have the lens. Lucky, Steve Perry has two 500mm lenses.
Thanks
I had mine on order from B&H ever since they offered it to pre-order on line in 2018. I am a member on NPS and called them in December and told them my story of how long I was waiting for the lens. NPS worked with me through B&H. NPS sent the lens to B&H who then overnighted it to me.
But NPS is now out of that lens also. The lens is made in limited supply, Nikon is limiting production to assure a quality product.
All I can tell you that it is worth the wait. I shoot it off the D850 and WOW.
I hope the next lens will be a Nikon 400 f4, like Canon has. That would make a great lens Nikon, are you listening?

I sell nothing at all to those that spend all their time being an asshat.
This is rather interesting.... What no has mentioned is the actual reason this particular optic is in such high demand... Folks that 500mm PF weighs 100g less than the AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED IF VR II and is equal in weight to the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR... and considerably less than the AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E...
What we have here is an aging user base that no longer can shoulder a "real man's lens" lol
Yes Steve Perry said his wife took his first copy... way too funny....
As the immortal Arnold Schwarzenegger said... you all are a bunch of "girlie men"
Maybe stop obsessing over a feather light optic and start a serious progressive resistance training routine... I lift weights and have have a daily Yoga routine so I can continue to function in my "Golden Years"
Sorry but this seem so pathetic... I've never seen commercial shooters get their panties all in a bunch over such a silly issue... Get Strong! Stay Strong... and get off your computer and exercise!
Use it or lose it... truer words have never been spoken...
All the best on your epic fitness journey...

I ordered my lens in November of 2018 from one of the NY stores and received it last Thursday! I must say it was worth the wait! It is hand holdable even for this 62 yo with a bad wrist! Gives me the reach that my 300 PF w/ 1.4 teleconverter didn’t! Patience!!
I ordered from Amazon in early May, was told delivery some time in June. Come June, It was said to deliver on a Thursday.
I checked my order page, and saw an option titled "Change delivery speed." I clicked on it and selected "One day delivery", thinking I would get it a day or two sooner. After I did that, I looked at my expected due date. To my shock and horror--okay, that's a little over the top-- my due date had changed to late July!
I called Amazon and bitched a storm, to no avail. Lesson learned--Don't change shipping speed--it doesn't mean what you think it does.
Meanwhile, two or three expected delivery dates have come and gone, with no lens in sight. They probably didn't have one in June either. Oh, well, I can wait. I mainly use my Oly m4/3 for long lenses. But I have and love the 300 f/4 PF and want to check out the 500.
I ordered and got my lens direct from Nikon USA within days of first release. Great lens and has replaced my 300mm prime as walk-about lens for birds and wildlife.
I ordered one of these telephoto lenses on Dec. 18 in 2018 from B&H. my go to camera store. After waiting until about June, I followed Thom's advice and ordered from two brick and mortar camera stores. I got one from Roberts camera store in Indianapolis by mail order about two months later. Apparently the large mail order houses like B&H and Adorama have much longer wait lists relative to the supply of hard to get items like this lens. Hope this helps.
You could try Service Photo Supply in Baltimore.
https://servicephoto.com/They've carried everything Nikon for years, but if Nikon isn't shipping, I'd guess nobody has it.

I called you and you said you had 2 Nikon 500mm 5.6 lens in stock. I said I'll buy it, ship it to me.
You refused. You told me that lens was for local clients only. If I wanted to, I could drive 2000 miles and pick it up from your store.
I have ordered from at least 10 Nikon Authorized Dealers within a 500 mile radius of me and they ALL will ship Nikon camera stock to me no questions asked.
Your refusal to ship me the lens, I felt, was a slap in my face. As an old Nikon Rep. and a member of Nikon Professional Services, I felt I was not dealt with professionally, especially since you are a Authorized Nikon dealer and refused to ship the lens to me.
I still feel that way. How would you feel?
And on top of it all you resort to name calling as an excuse to act as a Nikon Authorized Dealer. Shame on you.
