Any Jeff Beck fans here? I’m going to see him next week in Austin. I don’t presume to say who is the “greatest” anything - I can just say who my favorites are. And on my personal list of favorite electric guitarists I have a two way tie for first place - Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck. Both pushed the boundaries of what an electric guitar can do. In his 70s, he’s at the height of his powers.

Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers, a cover of a Stevie Wonder ballad he wrote for a girlfriend to perform, but Jeff got ahold of it and made it his own:

Jeff Beck is one of the greatest rock guitarists to date, as is David Gilmore and Steve Howe. One of my favorite guitarist, musician and showman, not to mention not sauce maker, is Chris Caffery. I've seen him perform dozens of times and he is a master of his art.

Been a Beck fan since the 60's when I began playing guitar. Still have his "Truth" album I bought at a vinyl record store back when it first came out. Becks Belero and Ain't Superstitious still some of my favorites. His playing is even better 50 years later. A real artist and legend. Glad he didn't die from drugs and Booz like so many rock and pop artists.

He also makes minimal use of effects pedals. He gets all those different sounds out of the guitar with nothing but his fingers, the whammy bar, and the volume knob. He feels the effects pedals make guitarists who use them all sound the same, and the way to create distinctive sounds is with his fingers on the strings.
