I was in Key West a month ago and my BNB was only 2 blocks away from there. I didn't visit it because it was 95 degrees and the line was way down the sidewalk. It was just too hot for me. SO, I really appreciate your post. It gives me a little glimpse of what I missed. Thanks.

Too bad woodworkerman! It is a pleasant place with all kind of famous movies memorabilia. Thanks

Welcome to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum web site. Located at 907 Whitehead Street and nestled in the heart of Old Town Key West, this unique property was home to one of America’s most honored and respected authors.

Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote here for more than ten years. Calling Key West home, he found solace and great physical challenge in the turquoise waters that surround this tiny island.

Step back in time and visit the rooms and gardens that witnessed the most prolific period of this Nobel Prize winner’s writing career.

Educated tour guides give insightful narratives and are eager to answer questions.

Wander through the lush grounds and enjoy the whimsy of the more than forty cats that live here.

The Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum is a significant address on any Key West itinerary. The museum welcomes thousands of visitors from around the world and looks forward to welcoming you!

Hi,

Hemingway is one of my all times favorite writer. The first time I read his first novel in college (in VN - Translated version) I could not stop reading all of his novels.

Hope you enjoy the home/museum one of American, if not the world, literature giant.

Best regards

Wonderful pictures, as always. I've never read Hemingway, but after seeing your shots of his home and reading your description, I feel compelled to read at least one of his books.

His novels were important contributions to US and world literature. You might consider a book of short stories too. The shorts are bundled in different groups under several covers. Try to find one that includes both The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber.

Thank you for your recommendations. I remember seeing the movie Snows of Kilimanjaro when I was about 10 yrs. old. Never realized Hemingway and written it.

Paul,

I'd already read 'To whom the bell tolls' novel, but Ingrid Bergman and Gerry Cooper blew my mind in that movie as well.

My bookcase is full of Hemingway's novels....I will check out the short stories.

Thanks

I had a Hemingway phase sometime in my 30s, about the age of some of his characters as well as I was living / traveling in Europe. The short stories are a different treat from novels like For Whom The Bell Tolls or The Sun Also Rises. This discussion prompted me to find my copy of The Short Stories and read the final few pages again of The Snows of Killimanjaro and to wipe a tear away.

TWhen I traveled there on business during ‘80s and ‘90s, there were 57 cats on the property, many with varying degrees of deformity due to in-breeding. Guess many have died and birth rate is deminishing.

Yeah, Hemingway loves cats....I just forgot about it. Thanks

I seem to remember that all the cats are interbred and have 5 toes. Is that still the case?

Paul,

You had been living/traveling in Europe? The reason I love Europe because when I studied French as second foreign language in HS (VN) they kept talking about Seine River, Luxumbourg, Tuileries garden, North Dame Catheral (The hunchback of Notre Dame - Victor Hugo),...

Cheer
