I have a Canon 5D mk3, I have several lenses including a 17-44mm f4, a fixed 50mm f1.2, a 24-70mm f2.8, and a 70-200mm f28. A friend of mine is selling a 24-105mm f4 at a really good price, $450, do i really need this lens? Thanks in advance hoggers.

It is much more versatile than your 24-70 with the greater range.
Once you use it you will be spoiled with having the versatility without having to change lenses so much.

I don't wish to offend you Fabulous, however, how on earth would total strangers know, only really you knows if you "need" this lens...

Cheers!

I personally wouldn't bother spending that $450 on that lens, sounds like you already have a very good supply of very good lens.
Now that's MY opinion, it is your $$$, but be sure that money is spent on something you really need
Remember: K.I.S.S.= Keep it Simple Silly
Remember: G.A.S.= Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
I hope my personal opinion and advice is in No way offending you.

I love mine and it's my walk-around lens basically. You have some very nice lenses though and probably wouldn't need this one unless you wanted to sell one you already have to possibly cut down the weight of lest say the 70-200mm but that too , is a great piece.

Maybe you should try shooting with your friend's 105 and see if it fills a niche in your line-up before you leap or not.

Only you know if you need it or not. You have plenty of gear already.

I would probably buy it...in fact I recently purchases the Nikon 24-120 lens for the same reason...low price, quality lens (F4), good range, and excellent walk-around lens. I guess I would probably determine what I would use it for...how I am accommodating the focal range now, where most of my photo's fall in the focal range, and make a determination based on that. If I shoot around 70-80 mm for most photo's, which lens would I take...my 24-70 or my 70-200...for me it would be the versatile and lighter weight 24-105 you are considering. Just my thoughts.

With the selection of lenses you already have,(you'll be over lapping) I don't think you need it.

Buy it if you can unload the 24-70. What would be the point of having both?

There's only one thing anyone needs, and that's to die. Everything else is a choice. So the question you need to ask is do you WANT it, and how badly.

No ... you don’t NEED it. You have enough coverage already with your current lenses.

Only you can answer why you want it.

I'd say no - you've got the range covered.
