Nice little Uke Jerry. That was my first instrument. I don't know what the hairs are but nice image in any case.

Camera motion, the 'hairs' are identical.

The op knows it, read the title.

Yes, the flash did not fire (was not popped up), so there was a long exposure. As I moved the camera, the shutter closed. I'm surprised it turned out as well as it did, but the shutter was closing as I began to move the camera.

This is a common problem among aging ukuleles. It is called ukulele pattern baldness. When young, a uke has large tufts of hair protruding from each of the tuning pegs. But as they age, the hair thins. From the fact that there are few hairs left from your instrument, it is now almost completely bald. If it's suffering from depression over the balding, you can always get it one of those ukulele wigs. They are manufactured by one of the smaller companies that make covers for golf clubs and are nearly indistinguishable from a full head of uke hair.

Long exposure. Hairs are actually highlights from the tuning pegs - my guess, since the EXIF data is stripped, that the shutter was open for at least 1-3 seconds.

Thanks for pointing that out! I wonder why the EXIF is gone. Okay, it's Lightroom's fault. It decided to pull a fast one on me and change the Metadata settings. I corrected it. I wonder how long it's been set like that.

EDIT: It looks like it was changed at the end of April.

It looks like the grain of the wood that the instrument was made from.

The Uke wants to be played, so the pegs are wildly scratching the air as it passes in hopes you will notice, pick it up and give it a little strum. It is these musical pleas that you are capturing.

I took some shots of my Martin OX, and for one of them, the pop-up flash was closed. Looking at it in detail, I saw these strange lines - like stray hairs. You have to click on Download to see them. They're not hairs, of course. Funny result.

Hard to tell in the out of focus picture---seems to be caused by camera movement.

Those are musical groin hairs, generated when a uke is tuned GCEA and the uke's player messes around with its G-string a bit too often.

Messing with someone's G-string is not painful, but it does make him walk funny.
