I’m a b&w fan, but the color version wins here.

I appreciate it Matt.

While the B/W is quite good, it just doesn't have the subtle differences that make the color image "pop" out!

Thanks for commenting Tony. I do need more experience in processing B&W.

Color is my preference. I am so impressed with all your efforts, by the way. You are an inspiration to me, as a new learner.

Bobcat thank you so much. I am determined to master it some day. My Pop always told me growing up that I could do anything I wanted to do if I was willing to put in the work. Studies show that in order to master a skill or craft you have to put in a minimum of 10,000 hours. I have probably put in about 800 hours this past year in tutorials, shooting and post processing. At this rate I might get there in another 12 years but look at all the fun I am having on the way.

The color version fits in with the richness of the shapes, both tending towards celebrating beauty.

Thank you Bob. So.....drawing on your many years of teaching, would you consider this an abstract?

I agree with most of the others. Color looks best. Looks like a winner! Good luck!

Thanks Christina! I just want to win one 1st place in the beginner category this year. So far I have gotten three honorable mentions and one second place.

Very nice Keni, I too am going to against the flow and choosing the B&W version but I think that is my monochrome bias speaking. Both are stunning and I think you should go with the one that you feel displays your unique talent best. Good luck in either case.

Color it is! The monochrome doesn't show enough contrast to stand out. IMHO

I think the color image is the stronger image.

Seems once again I am going against the flow. I prefer the B/W one. As for it being abstract enough I never got the feeling that it was an abstract.
Good luck with which ever one you submit

Keni -- I have to go solidly with NJFrank on this one.

I don't think this is an abstract because the objects are real.

Hi, Keni,
I favor the subtly colored version. The gentle, limited hue spectrum from a somewhat desaturated ochre through yellow, white and grays, accompanied by the monochrome constricting tendrils compressing and deforming the more basal regions of the petals (?) results, to my eye, in a malevolent tension that is the ultimate impact of this image.

It is a remarkably effective, strong, and engrossing image.

It would definitely stop a gallery stroller in mid-stride!

Well done!

Dave

Thank you Jack! I ran it by a veteran club member who is also a photography teacher and he said it would not be considered an abstract. It is not far enough out of context so it is still recognizable for what it is. I will find something else to enter as an abstract and enter this in the next open style competition in November.
