For years I traveled from Los Angeles to Washington DC under government orders. Next to the last year of gainful employment I found myself on the no fly list. Why you may ask? No one seemed to know.

One of the problems with the No Fly list is that it seems any of us can find our names on the list but with no apparent reason why it was placed there. Even Senator Ted Kennedy was on the No Fly list.

Ghery, This is our first year with GlobalEntry, and I've wondered what the renewal process was. So that can all be done via mail, and no second interview?

My wife and I have gone through the application process and have been approved. Yet we occasionally are not listed as pre check on our boarding passes. When we have asked some of the TSA personnel we were told it is always random even if approved.

We both also have applied and been approved for Global Entry that is supposed to have Pre check included. Yet we are not always listed as Pre check.

Are you certain that you submitted you Pre number with each ticket purchase?

My wife and I are thinking about getting the pre check since we like the shorter line and I hate practically disrobbing (shoes, belt, watch, cell phone, iPad out of carry-on, and jackets I am wearing one) to go through security. If a certain age you are not required to take off your shoes.

I work for UA and my wife and I fly standby and we get the Pre check quite regularly even if it has been several months since either of us has flown.

We tried the clear and decided it was not worth what they were charging and it wasn't giving anything that the pre check was giving so we cancelled before the trial period was up.

As for Clear, I wonder if it matters which airport we use. I’ve used it at JFK, LAX and ATL and avoided long pre-check lines (which seem to be getting longer).

I have never submitted the number except for a few years back. I do not submit it each time.

I had heard that it's random, but I seemed to get TSA-Pre more than half the time. I'm retired USAF, and I suppose that shows in lots of Govt databases.

Sinc I fly a lot it is well worth the application process, etc. Yes, occasionally they randomly select from frequent flyers, not upper or first class.

I was informed by some upper echelon folks at TSA several years ago that in order to keep people moving in the airports, Specific Airlines are authorized to give "Pre" to 20% of the flying public. This is random but often, once you get it, it comes more often than not.

I have always been concerned that this does away with the need for TSA as how can we be secure of 1/5 of the folks aren't screened.

Had horrible side-effects, didn't it. Time would be better spent re-watching Galaxy Quest.
BTW, I have family in Warminster so I get out that way sometimes.

It is done online. No second interview or anything. Just pay your money, answer the multitude of questions and then wait. You can start the renewal process up to one year in advance. I waited until 1 month in advance and that wasn't anywhere near early enough. Once they are happy they send you a notice that you've been re-approved and then they send the new card with instructions on activating it. Same price, $100 per person for 5 years.

My wife and I regularly get TSA Pre-Check when flying Delta. I’m a Delta Million Miler, don’ Know if that has anything to do with it.

United Million Miler here. I'm sure that I got the TSA Pre-Check approval prior to getting Global Entry due to my membership in their program, but now with Global Entry I plan on getting it. And do.

I share your concern. Having gone through the TSA Pre line several times, I can tell you that the screening is cursory compared with what you get in the normal line. Just last Thursday at SFO, they allowed my wife to keep liquids in her carry on bag and didn't even want to see it. Do simple x-ray scans really know it isn't an explosive or flammable liquid? I don't think that random people should be able to go through that line. I hope it isn't random.

Even if you take it out of the bag they can't tell the nature of the liquid, only if you have more than the magic amount.
