I would bet that is your problem. I forgot to put it into our original ticket process several times. But each time, when we went to the airport, I asked a ticket agent to re- ticket us with the number and it was always granted.

Possibly but often when I was not selected my wife was and vice versa. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason.

When flying I randomly get pre approved TSA. I'm just very happy that I no longer need to remove my shoes when going through security. TSA people told me that once a person reaches 75 they no longer require that shoes be removed. That was always a big pain in the A**.

I got the same from both Southwest and American for years. Now I'm not. I asked. American said it was 'gimme" trying to get people to pay for it. That I won't do. Too often at the times I fly there isn't a special lane open and one has to do all that stuff anyway!

I think you’ve been wearing your shoes wrong😊

When you do not register your number with your ticket, then it does become a random situation as to whether you get TSA Pre or not. This is what many people are saying in the posts here, and what I discovered when talking to agents with Southwest. We travel often enough with Southwest that we are in their system, which now has our numbers on record. We no longer have to input the number each time we purchase a ticket, so we are always documented for TSA Pe.

I’ve seen a few replies here that talk about a registering/submitting your number. What “number” are you referring to and how do I get one?

I believe once you apply for and approved for the TSA pre check you will get what is known as as a KTN (Known Travelers Number) which you will then use when you purchase your ticket. Also make sure that you register the number with the Airline you purchase your ticket(s) from at the time of purchase.

Correct. And if you are a member of any of the airline clubs or memberships, you can have your KTN retained so that you do not have to enter it every time you purchase a ticket.

It is not as random as you think. Delta had put in only boarding docs for several years and then it happened only randomly. Checking with Delta, it was for frequent flyers but they indicated that after a few years, you need to go through the process.
