I am also interested in this topic and have considered the purchase of a D5 but now that I know that there will be a D6, does anyone know when that body will actually be available for purchase or any idea of a release date?

Just when did Nikon make an announcement about a D6?
Nikon has said NOTHING, just where did you hear this FAKE NEWS?

I've heard it will be released the week after Labor Day and will be sold only with a Nikon 180-400/4E FL 1.4TC for $ 19,999.95. You can order yours from me with a $ 5,000.00 deposit. Jesus.

[quote=Scruples] I did not want this model series because I felt it would be more camera than I am a photographer.

Other than spending money when not needed; what is the downside to buying "more camera than I am a photographer. "

I doubt Nikon has announced anything about the D6.

This one for one!
I've shot well over 100,000 wildlife images with my D5 and it's a wonderful camera. However, it's also relatively low res compared to cameras like the D850 or even the Canon 5DIV. So, filling the frame and keeping cropping to a minimum is critical if you want to get the most out of it. If you find you're cropping the D850 heavily, then you probably will be disappointed in the D5. However, if you can typically fill the frame (or close), it's a phenomenal action camera. It "just gets the shot" :)

That said, also keep in mind that the D6 is due out soon - probably announced by early January and it will certainly up the game. The D5 is great, but it's also about a 4 year old camera - ancient by consumer electronics standards. Personally, although I love the D5, if mine died today, I'd just use my D850 until the D6 came out. $6500 is a lot to shell out on something that's about to be replaced. Of course, if you could find a good used one for less than $5000, that wouldn't be so bad :)

Sorry, just a knee jerk reaction to some comments related to a post that I made about the possibility of a new camera body by Nikon, which by the way was a post made to acknowledge a post made by someone else.

Well, I read this from the beginning! Your post added nothing and was, at best, confusing. Please STOP and go TROLL some other site Mr. 48 Posts! Should you wish to continue here, please contribute something positive.

Well I am not actually trolling, my initial post was in response to others making a comment on the possibility of a Nikon D6 so if I came across as a troll I do offer my deepest apologies. I was just trying to join in the conversation about the possibility of a new camera coming from Nikon. Sorry if my 48 posts does not fit your definition of a true enthusiast or professional. I admit I am new here and up until now did not feel I had much to offer such a professional group of photographers. I joined this site in the hopes of learning something, but with the rhetoric that you offer I am not sure I made a wise decision in coming here.
