I would like to label my lens cases. Maybe also a label for the end cap of the lens. Probably the best place is the black bottom. Samples attached. What methods have others used? I would like it to be neat and durable. My best idea is a white Sharpie.

Never gave it a thought as I do not use them.
If I were I would use a sticky label available at a place like Staples.

Just be careful that it doesn't bleed or smudge when you label them.
What information do you want to put on the label? Lens model? Name & Address? Other? For this 70-200, isn't the content (lens inside) already obvious from the bag?
Labeling the case wouldn't do anything to the resale value of the lens, but you might consider that future event.
I use neoprene bags for most of my lenses, particularly those that came with the L grey bags. The sharpie gold / silver paint pens look nice initially on neoprene, but have to be redone regularly when the color fades. You'd probably find the same if you labeled the black with such a pen. A black Sharpie might last longer on the lighter colored section. Less permanent would be masking tape, say onto the bottom of the bag.
That white sharpie will rub off, all the so called permanent markers I have ever tried either rubbed off or faded.
Put a tag on the case carrying strap D ring.
If you must use labels it will have to be with some kind of cloth glue for the case.
Why bother labeling the end cap of the lens? They are all the same size and interchangeable if the lenses are for the same model camera. I have all Canon cameras and lenses from Canon, Tamron and Sigma. I don't care if the end cap doesn't have the same brand name as the lens it ends up on. If I were to sell or trade a lens I would switch caps around to match brand names.
Personally, I think it is best to apply a sticker with the info rather than permanently mark the cap or case. If you need to someday remove the information (for example, if you want to sell or re-purpose the item), it will be easier to remove. Not all stickers are the same, some types don't fall off easily. And if after a few years the sticker does manage to peel from the surface, how hard is it to replace it with a new sticker?

I use a P-Touch labler made by Brother. Much more flexible and permanent than the old Dymo labels. You can pick a variety of backgrounds (including transparent) and the labler will let you select styles and sizes of letters
I prefer a paint stick over a Sharpie for things of this nature. The Sharpie wears more quickly than the markings of a paint stick, which is also more tolerant to different solvents.

I've never done that.
I remember a while back some company was advertising rear lens caps with the focal lengths on them.
Brother P-touch labels on back lens caps. Makes grabbing the right lens in a bag very easy. Also labels on drawers and boxes for proper ID.

How much do you want to spend to make it look neat and professional? I would find a seamstress or canvas shop to embroider a label and sew it to the case. Maybe different colors for different lenses while you are at it. As far as the lens cap, mine all have Canon on them. If for some reason I wanted to mark them I would paint out one of the white letters with a particular color for each different size. Or, I would just stick with my current system of "This isn't the lens I meant to put in my bag!"

Go to your local home center or locksmith and get some plastic key tags, the ones that have a plastic window and use a P-touch machine to make the label. Then use the split ring to attach to the pouch's zipper.
I use lens cases for the Glass I do not use every day.
I use a key tag attached to the draw cord ( canon l series) details are lens and f stop with filter size e.g. 72 or 78 mm thread also colour code tags e.g. green for wide angle, red for prime ,yellow for macro etc
Makes it so easy when setting up bag for a day shoot or a trip just read the tags and pack appropriately

Use something that will come off later. Resale value will go down if you write on your stuff.
