My Image Your Look: Big Storm Galveston TX
This topic is locked to prevent further replies.
Every summer my family, brother, sisters, kids and grandkids, rent a beach house together on Galveston island for a few days. This year there were 26 of us with 10 of them ranging in age from 1.5 years old to 13. When I was growing up it was camping on the beach but I think we all like our creature comforts more these days. An offshore storm blew up one afternoon but never reached shore at least not where we were. It was beautiful to watch.
I have included both a jpg and CR2 file for your use. Download the image and edit in any way you wish then submit your result to this thread. You may post a maximum of two edits. Entries will be accepted until 7 pm EDT, Thursday. Voting will run from Thursday evening until Sunday evening. The winner will host the following week's challenge. Thank you for your continued support. Have fun!
I downloaded into my iPad and ran PS Express ‘enhance’ tool on the image. It just brightened up the image a tad, but nothing spectacular. I would guess an app with only pre-set tools is inadequate for this contest.
Thanks for a nice sunny day at the beach. Those storm clouds don't bother me - they're too far away....

The real danger is that you'll learn very little from using such an app and you don't want to become dependent on it.

PS Express does have a few global editing tools. It is not all presets. I used it for several months before I got serious about LR and PS. Gives those a try and see if you like your version better and post it. Its all about having fun and learning anyway.
Big Storm Galveston: my view
I think the storm was a little closer than the camera captured.
Such a great composition, and I didn't want to just change around the colors and tones--so, I invented. Somewhat like the Wizard of Oz, the girl has drifted off, and imagines herself in a cloud kingdom, peering at a castle, suggested by the red sand mold she had on the beach.
Nice image -- thanks for offering it up.

After a little work in Camera Raw and Photoshop
A wonderful composed scene. My goal in editing was to emphasis the moody feeling of the storm. Work was all done in lightroom a fair amount of dodge and burning and fine tuning the lighting. I hope that you like it.
Edited for a darker sky. Removed subj. and items from foreground, but left a red bucket to give the viewer something to pander.
When I chose this photo I wanted to post something different but I was concerned that it might not offer enough challenge or creative inspiration. I should have known with the talented and creative folks on UHH there was nothing to worry about. All the entries so far have been great. Can't wait to see what else out there!
Really a good picture to work on. I thought the oncoming storm should be a little more ominous.
