This is so sad...
The future does not look that good for this poor baby. The woman featured here is my son's girlfriend and she is holding their newborn baby girl. She was born at the end of April. Just 3 days after her birth, this baby had to undergo open heart surgery that lasted over 6 hours. Something failed to close. It so happened that the surgery would also be on the mother's 19th birthday. The child spent her first month of life at Children's Mercy hospital in Kansas City and has had to go back several times since.
Just on Friday, mom was informed that this poor child has congestive heart failure. She's still hanging tough, though. Mom is also just as incredible! At such a young age, she is so focused on caring for her daughter, to say that the mother "instinct" thing has kicked in, is a gross understatement. She has listened, she has read, and she had to learn instantaneously as to what to do at any given moment. And she does it tirelessly. The fatigue of it all does show, unfortunately.
Prayers for the all but esp the little one.

Thanks, Rob. It's like, "What can we do?". Not much really. It is in God's, the doctors, and the baby's hands. The baby has gained good weight throughout it all. That's a good thing.
Hang in there, Grandpa. Don’t underestimate the power of prayer, hope, will, and determination.

Maybe God will decide he doesn't need any more tiny angels just now. Perhaps even send the inspiration to some medical research team to find a cure/fix for the condition in time to help her.
Best wishes & thoughts are with you, your son, his girlfriend & the baby. Wish there was something we could say or do that would help. But you are all in our thoughts. Best wishes & stay strong.

Continued prayers for your entire family!!
I can only go along with other members and offer my prayers that this young baby be healed and live a long wonderful life. My best wishes for the family and especially for the mom who does seem tireless in making her baby comfortable and loved.

Well, who knows? We do learn a little bit more of what we can do about things when situations like this arise. I bet that only 20 years ago, the odds of this baby making it this far, were far less. The doctors are already planning in great detail as to what to do about her heart. She will need another operation. They are hoping that inserting a balloon will do the trick in order to make a rather small opening larger for better blood flow. Less invasive and safer.

Thank you very much! Yep, that is about all anyone can do at this point.
These photos are priceless. Praying for this precious little one and the family.

Thank you, Dennis. Only time will tell. The mother seems to have it handled right now. This is a good thing.
