Keeping my trusty D7100 for a backup. Looked at the D7500 but it only has one card slot.
Going with the D500. What can I expect? Haven't touched it yet. Thanks UHH experts

It is being discontinued but I absolutely love mine. The different choices for setting the focusing are a bit confusing. I also have a D7200 and a D750.

My understanding is that a particular D 500 Kit was discontinued, not the camera. I may be wrong in that. I do not have a D 500, my oldest friend does and loves it. Spend time with the manual and camera, practice, and you will be rewarded with early success for the time invested.

I have 2 Nikon bodies, a D7200 and a D500. I also have over a dozen Canon Bodies. The D500 is a marvelous camera, for a crop sensor. I practically retired my Canon 7D mk II when I got the D500 for hand held photography. It's also pretty good at video, once you get the hang of it. It's fairly complicated and the factory manual doesn't really tell you how to use it. That's why I picked up a really nice book dedicated to learning how to use the D500 and all the functionality built into it. I recommend you do the same.
When I go out shooting I often bring 2 cameras, my Canon 5D mk IV and my Nikon D500, both with zoom lenses. The Canon with a shorter lens and the Nikon with a longer lens. It usually works out quite well.
Bottom line, get that D500, you won't regret it...

You can expect a small learning curve to start with. After that you find you can learn something new every day. It’s a great camera and well worth the effort.

I have a D7200 and a D500. The D500 has faster focus, faster shooting speed, a flip screen, a newer engine and a few more features. It loses the built in flash, U1 and U2, 4MP, and is a bit bigger and heavier.
I use the D500 more than the D7200, but I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

The camera IS NOT being discontinued. The kit is. Been discussed ad nauseum here.
I have the D500 and have also kept my D7100 as a backup. I have an older D5000 with less than 5K actuations I'm seriously considering getting an IR conversion on.
I like the D500. There's something about fast action situations and being able to run 10 FPS. It "sounds like victory" to steal a quote and then slightly modified.

Not discontinued yet, although having been released in the US on January 2016, it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Still being offered new by Nikon USA; see here:

As others have posted, the recent limited production 50 Anniversary version of the D500(special decal, dark gray color, special caps, etc.) has been discontinued. Also, many are expecting Nikon to issue an APS-C mirrorless (Z5?), which likely will be a top end crop camera meaning Nikon would not release a D-500 DX replacement/upgrade, relegating the top DX to the D7500 or an upgrade (D7600?).
The D500 is a magnificant camera that will serve well for many years to come, IMO.

If Nikon DOES release a mirrorless crop sensor model, they'll then drop the D500 like a stone, again IMO.

I have two D500's. I have a tip. The video record button to the left and behind the shutter button can be re-programmed to execute Mode. Mode is in the group of four buttons on the top left of the camera but it's much more convenient to have it close to the shutter button. It makes changing between program, aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual mode much faster. I don't shoot video so I re-programmed mine.

An excellent wildlife/sports camera that should not disappoint. Though I no longer own one, I regarded mine as a high end product. Combined with my Nikkor 300mm f4 PF ED VR (+/- my TC14EIII), Nikkor 200 - 500mm f5.6 and Sigma 180mm f2.8 OS macro, it never let me down. Really fast and accurate AF, an excellent sensor and great ergonomics, producing excellent images. The only negative for me was the failure of Nikon to include customised presets on the command dial - stangely, there are presets on the cheaper D7500.

It depends what shooting you do, but I set mine up on the recommendations of Steve Perry's YouTube videos. The D500 is my favorite DX Nikon.
