Actually, the D500 is not being discontinued. That was a rumor, based on a poorly-worded article, that I helped to spread. Sorry.

The D500 is arguably a better camera than the D7200. But it won’t take better pictures unless you are better. Keep shooting and enjoy your new camera.

I upgraded to a D500 involuntarily when my D7500 fell onto concrete and Nikon actually declined to fix it because the cost would have been more than the cost of a new one. I can’t add much to the other positives about the D500 - it is a splendid camera. Still learning the nuances, but my favorite aspects so far are the 10fps, the dual cards, and the ability to lock shutter speed and aperture, all on top of the superb possessing engine. As one poster post mentioned, the combo of the D500 and the 300f/4E Pf is a killer.

Keeping my trusty D7100 for a backup. Looked at the D7500 but it only has one card slot.
Going with the D500. What can I expect? Haven't touched it yet. Thanks UHH experts

One of Nikon's best...I can't say enough about it. I use it for sports & Wild life...it hangs in there with my D5...

My opinion again, not dropped again.

Check your facts, only a certain package is being discontinued not the D500.

You might also like to check out my review on the B&H website. It is too extensive to quote here. And, you might also like to google "review the Nikon D500", you will get more information than you need to make a decision.
You may also like to come to my show where I feature shots taken with this camera.
My photo show will be at the Weller Gallery at the Davis Education and Visitors Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens, Youngstown Ohio. 123 McKinley Ave. Tuesday-Sunday 10-5. Closed Monday. 330-740-7116. The show will run from August 17th to October 13th. Meet the artist date is Sunday, September 8, 1-3 pm. See you there.

I did the same a few months ago.Traded in my D7000 for a D500 and kept my D7100. The D500 focuses super fast, is great in low light, is great for action shots.....and does so much more. A bit of a learning curve, but it’s worth it.

I've had my D500 for a couple of years and really love it and believe you will love yours too. Since you're asking for tips here's a really important one, to get the most out of the autofocus system(that's why you bought the camera, right?) I would pick up a copy of UHH member Steve Perry's "Secerts of the Nikon autofocus system", you will be glad you did.

If you look on the Nikon Professional services site for Nikon D500 tips you will find various articles to expand you knowledge of your new D500.
Articles include "Useful features, Sports AF edition, Movie edition, Photographers impressions" and at the bottom of the page a Technical guide that can be downloaded and read.
Checked this was available 5 mins ago before posting. I have the Nikon D5 and have similar articles for my camera, these articles will help you make camera work at high level and help you get the most out of this photographic tool.
Happy reading.

Expect a great camera. Read about its complex focus system on the web. So helpful.

I own a D500 and a D810. If I absolutely had to give one up, it would be the D810. I also once owned a D7100. I gave it to my girlfriend after using the D500 for a couple weeks. You will love the D500.

What do you expect to happen? The D500 is the best crop sensor camera for sports you can get.
