First, let's try to define an assault weapon. Is it and AR 15 which only looks like a military weapon? What if I take a Ruger 10/22 and add a pistol grip and a carry handle to make it look similar to the M 16. Does that make it an assault weapon? The AR 15 is a powerful rifle, but not nearly as powerful as the average hunting rifle. People think it looks scary, therefore they are afraid of it.
Good points. The problem with definitions is that the mostly left leaning anti-gunners refuse to accept or understand the definition of an assault rifle. There are very clear definitions available but they are so brainwashed with talking points that are designed to instill fear for any gun into the conversation that they don't realize how foolish their anti-gun arguments are.
