I use lightroom. I like ON1 and thought that I would use it as a backup in case anything happened to LR. However their lack of support for CR3 formats changed my plans.

I'm a LR/PS user for a long time and LR (CC Classic) works for me so the temptation to switch to something new is really minimal. Have not tried current versions of ON1.
However, being curious, I googled "on1 dam". The first hit was something dated 2016. The
second was more current and had the statement:
"The 2019 version of ON1 Photo RAW, which will be available this November, offers significant enhancements to the migration process for customers looking to switch from Lightroom."One thing that should be of concern is the edits you currently have in LR. The above referenced website also says:
"To further facilitate bringing existing Adobe Lightroom users into its camp, ON1 Photo RAW 2019 includes a bolstered Lightroom Migration Tool that not only replicates folder, collection and metadata structures but can now also re-apply edits previously made, including local adjustments. While this is a novel approach, it’s worth noting that the actual results can vary because of the inherent differences between Adobe’s and ON1’s Raw processors."In other words, you will be able to almost preserve your edits or maybe you will be able to preserve your almost edits. It sounds like you will get close results from the new ON1, but not exact. It remains to be seen how close the results will be and of course "close" is subjective anyway. (I'm not sure whether transferring the edits will require you to have .xmp files generated by LR).
So it might be worth a try in November.

The best way to get the benefits of On1 with existing LR-edited files would be to export those files to psd or tiff, then use On1 to edit those raster images. I would hesitate to completely abandon LR. On1's raw editor does "layers" which LR does not. So theoretically, you can do a bit more in a raw file with On1, but if you "migrate" your files you may end up wanting to re-edit the files anyway in On1. In more practical terms, On1 does freeze up from time to time, tools like the Spot Healing brush are awfully slow, and editing, which is fairly simple and straightforward in Lr does have a significant learning curve in On1. From time to time they release a version of the software that improves performance and capability, but it can't replace Lr just yet. And I do like Lr's catalog-based file and folder management.
As a plugin to Adobe software I think it's hard to find anything better than On1, which is how I use it most of the time.

I import into the Lightroom catalogue, make some adjustments, and then use On1 as a plug in to make further adjustments. It works for me, and I lack the confidence to change boats in midstream.
I switched from LR to ON1 3 or 4 months ago and am feel that ON1 has more capabilities, especially in the areas of masking and layers. I’m still in the learning curve but getting good results.

I have confidence that I would be able to migrate to ON1 if I wanted to, but at my age, I'm almost at the dock and don't see much point of changing boats during the landing process.
Although I must say that having been a Windows user since the late '80s I have recently been seriously considering apple computers to the point where I am trying to learn Python because my two decade old Delphi 5 Object Pascal compiler doesn't port to apple and it's getting flaky on win10.

Hibler, you might want to join the Post Processing Forum. It is a great place for questions like this.
I have tried On1 , to me there is a lot of moving around . I do 97% of my editing from one page and occasionally move into PS . You need to download the free trial and then spend time in YouTube then make a decision.

Hi Dale, I have LR 6 and On1 2019.5 and love them both. I am quite use to the LR workflow, but don't plan to ever go to their subscription plan. There are several advantages to On1, and I often use it as a plug in or as a stand alone. While in LR I can right click on the image and go right into On1 for better performance of things like perfect eraser of dynamic contrast, etc. The workflow of On1 in stand alone is different, but still good, but will take a little getting use to it takes a little time. On1 2019.5 will likely have an update in a couple of months and might be one we all have to pay for. Get the 30 day free trial and give it a try, it won't cost anything but time and you may get an extra discount on the new version. I will say that On 1 has totally replaced my Adobe Photoshop.

Be advised that ON1 2019.6 (which is the current version) has CR3 support!

That is GREAT NEWS Thank You.
Hi Dale,
After years of using LR/PS, I decided to buy ON1 Raw 2019. For $70.00 is has most of what you would want but editing pictures is slow on my Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines. At least it's much slower the LR/PS. Take care & ...
I have the latest versions of both ON1 and Lightroom and for what it's worth, I prefer ON1. My suggestion is to "Try before you buy." See which product best meets your specific needs. You are the only one that can make that call. I can only tell you what works best for me. I will say that I also have Luminar, Affinity, Capture One 12, Digital Photo Pro 4 (Canon), Aurora and Photoshop. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses. But generally overall, I still prefer ON1 as my goto product.
I love ON1 and occasionally use Lightroom and Photoshop to supplement them. I always check out the photoshop online "new" lessons but always go to ON1 Photo Raw version 2019.6
