All of these have always been excellent to deal with for me (buyer/seller - New, Used and Refurbished) - Adorama, B&H, Cameta, KEH, MPB, Roberts & UsedPhotoPro, Hunts, Samys, Fred Miranda, UHH, Local Camera Store (if you have one within reasonable distance) Ebay (with due diligence & Paypal & Ebay protections) major big box retailers & E-commerce (but watch for 3rd party). If the deal is right, I would not hesitate to buy or sell with any of them. Manufacturers control new prices, so you will see little variance there, refurbished (by MFG) has been great for me, and used has worked well. As others have said, never hesitate to ask any and all questions so you are comfortable with the purchase, and if a problem arises, notify immediately, if no satisfactory recourse, elevate.
My $.02

"Have had wonderful service over a good few years from Roberts Camera's Used Photo Pro. Usually Free Shipping."

I second that. I must add they offer a 6 months warranty on used gear.

KEH has always been reliable for me.

Ditto on that. KEH's ratings are consistently conservative. I've bought lenses rated Ugly that had only minor plastic fading and work perfectly. The 28-90 macro lens I bought for $6 is my favorite lens right now and looked like it had never been touched when it arrived at my door. When I had a difficulty with an order their people answered the phone promptly, fixed my problem, and were very kind and friendly.
Yeah, two thumbs up for KEH!

Try Bergen County Camera in Westwood, NJ. They are the best camera shop in northern NJ. If you are not in a hurry, they also publish a used gear list which they will send out periodically to subscribers (free). I have purchased 4 or 5 cameras/lens from them over the years. Been happily satisfied with their expertise and service over that time.

Success with all:
MPB, B&H, Adorama, and Samy's.

The last used item I bought was from MPB and it was a like new Nikon R1C1 macro ring flash kit. It actually had more items in the case then the original kit came with!! I was thrilled.

Roberts/UsedPhotoPro, KEH, MPB are great. Roberts is also a very good photo dealer overall. Besides, of course, Adorama and B&H.

KEH Story

I bought a camera from KEH at a very good price. I really like it.

Here's the story. Within a few days I realized that it needed a new battery. I wasn't upset - the price I paid was more than fair, so I called KEH and asked if I could get a battery. They said sure! How much will it cost, I asked. "Nothing" they said, "you were entitled to a good battery"!

Me "Are you sure?" "I'd be glad to pay!" They - "No need for that, We'll ship one today, free!"

I highly recommend KEH!

After 5-6 years of shooting w my Nikon D5200 kit cam and lenses, I am looking for a D750 and 1 or two lenses. I’d consider myself an experienced amateur in landscape and portrait. I’ve bought little in the line of camera gear (actually my 5200 has been my only camera purchase from Sams Club in 6 years) and so wondered what your suggestions might be; where to shop for used gear other than the retails like “Adorama”.

Well I was going to recommend Adorama but I just noticed u want other places, but since I am replying to your question I am going to sing their praises,I have purchased all of my equipment some new but most of my gear is used or refurbished & all from Adorama.I have sold some of my gear on this site & in my photography group & everyone I sold it to was very pleased. So why not Adorama I may ask,you know what you are getting with them, when you purchase from a private seller, you never really know, just my two cents.Good luck where ever you decide to go!

In addition to UHH, which has a section dedicated to selling used gear, check out these specialty dealers:

https://KEH.com
https://MPB.com
https://Adorama.com
https://BHphotovideo.com
https://usedphotopro.com

Those five should get you started...

They are like that! I ordered a Nikon F/G lens adapter for Micro 4/3 cameras. They sent me an adapter for FOUR THIRDS cameras. Someone had mis-labeled it on the shipping baggie, as it was in the original box, inside that! When I called, the customer service guy said, "We're refunding your money to your card, now, and you can just keep the adapter or throw it away." I guess it cost more to ship it back than it was worth...

I've bought a couple of zoom lenses and a tripod head and a Lumix GH4 body from them. All work just fine!

I use Ebay a lot.
The sellers from Japan are very accurate and honest on the descriptions and their prices are more than fair.
Never had a problem for years. American sellers are shady mostly and are generally not honest.
Second choice is KEH but their selection is much more limited but they sell products that I say are better than what they rate them generally. I got some Ugly items that looked pretty good to me and function very well.

KEH has always sold me better than expected equipment at really fair prices and Adorama was also quite satisfactory as well. Use Paypal always if you have an account. Many merchants now require a Paypal transaction instead of a card or check especially if they are in another country and shipping to the USA.
Good luck...take care to record & verify ser. nos. of what you are purchasing before & after receipt of the merchandise....some people cheat and will ship a different item or an incomplete accessory package.

Thank you Blair. I do have payPal so I’m set there.
