A really strange thing happened to me the other day. I was out shooting with my Nikon D-7200. I bought it a couple of months ago, brand new. When I took out the sd card to download to my computer an image of a total stranger was among the shots I had on the card. The thing is no one but me has ever used this camera but me. Could someone have hacked my camera since it does have wifi? Of course the wifi is not turned on while shooting. Could the seller have used an sd card that had been used? Anyway I was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone on this forum before.
Could the camera have been returned to the vendor before you bought it?
Was it the first photo on the card? What was the image number?
Also you make it sound like the card was already in the camera when you bought it. If that’s the case then it sounds like maybe it’s not brand new.
No I have been taking pictures for a couple of months and it had the Nikon numbering system on it. And it wasn't the first photo in the sequence. It was just in the batch with the other pictures.
I bought it from B and H photo so I know they are a reputable outfit. I can't imagine getting a used camera that was advertised as new. It looked brand new.
The card was already in the camera.
I had taken more than a hundred photos already and had copied them to the computer.
After that I put the card back in the camera and formatted it. I always reformat after downloading them.

Yes, I've had it happen with a used camera. The mystery image was in the camera's limited internal memory not on my SD card. It would show up from time to time. Your camera could have been out of the box a few times, though then it should have been listed as an Open Box, New (with a discount). Could it have been one of the few tested cameras from an assembly line? What is the picture of Niagara Falls or the inside of a Nikon assembly plant?

You took the picture. You're just getting old and your memory is shot!
That's the answer I would get if I told that story to my wife!
Are you sure nobody else had their hands on your camera? Do you recognize the location where it was shot? Does he look like Jimmy Hoffa?
Look at the EXIF data. Where was the camera at the time that photo was taken?
Haha. I am getting old but I have never seen this person before in my life. I may not have gotten a new camera. I need to check the shutter count. I really wouldn't think B and H would sell a used camera as new.
I did check the info about the photo but I didn't realize that it would also contain info about where the photo was taken. I was so freaked out that I immediately deleted it. Probably should have kept it for evidence if need be.
