I have been known to hold my camera by my side and accidentally press the release. Sometimes I hear it, sometimes not. It doesn't happen all that frequently, but I have found shots on my cards that I didn't take knowingly. Usually it's an OOF picture of my foot or some featureless wall but there have been subjects that showed up. The composition usually gives it away as an accident, but even an accident can be accidentally good.

You didn't tell us where you got the SD card.

I've done that too but this was obviously a staged picture on a man smiling at the camera.

Upon further reflection I realize that the sd card in question was one I've had for some time. It did not come with the camera. But I can't imagine who this person is or how it got on my card.

I'm sure it was not B and H selling me a used camera for a new one. So that was not the case. I still can't figure out how the mysterious stranger appeared on my sd card though.

Could it be possible that it is 'He who's name we do not speak'? I see a possible movie deal in this for you!

New Canon DSLR's do not come with memory cards unless it is something the dealer adds to the deal. Even then, the only connection between the camera and the card is that they probably shipped together. They certainly didn't come from the factory together. I would guess the same holds true for Nikon. Even used DSLR's don't normally come with cards. I wouldn't worry about your camera being used.

Any chance someone is playing a trick on you? Years ago at a sky diving center that I used to jump at there were 2 female tourists from Holland who stopped in to make their first jump. When they got in the plane to go up one of them left her camera on a table in the hanger. The plane had no more then taxied out when somebody grabbed her camera and the rest of us lined up. When she got home and got the film developed she would have been greeted by about 10 "full moons" pointed at the camera. Always wondered what her reaction was!

I always thought that parachutists had a few kangas loose in the top paddock.

Thanks LFingar for the humorous anecdotes. That would have been great to see those tourists reactions. Upon further reflection you're right that camera did not come with the sd card, it was one I have been using last few years so no telling where that image came from. The thing is I always reformat my cards after uploading them to the computer but who knows that could have been some leftover glitch that just randomly showed up. It did freak me out though lol.

Thank goodness for that! The criminally sane miss out on a lot of fun in life!
Let me just add that if you were to give skydiving a try I'm sure you would "fall" for it in a hurry!

It certainly is a strange occurrence, but, as long as you don't start hearing strange voices coming from the card I wouldn't worry about it too much!

I did check the info about the photo but I didn't realize that it would also contain info about where the photo was taken. I was so freaked out that I immediately deleted it. Probably should have kept it for evidence if need be.
it contains location info only if camera has GPS.

So, we know it did not come with the camera when you bought it. You've had the SD card for quite awhile. Just wondering, when was the last time you formatted the SD card?
