I see some great photos that were taken with phones and just say that I had more fun with my 5lb camera that made loud mechanical sounds.

I agree that all are equal regardless of camera, but I am surprised at how so many people are clueless to others. I'll wait for a "clean" shot, camera to eye, but before I can release the shutter, somebody will simply walk in front of me to take their own photo. Seems I'm always wearing an invisibility cloak. Myself, I can honestly say I do look around for others taking photos and stand clear.

The same thing happened to me last week. I was waiting, camera to eye, about to press the shutter when an older teen walked right in front of me with her cell phone and started snapping selfies. Her father commented about my being there about to take a picture and told the daughter to move.

I appreciated the father speaking up. I just smiled in appreciation after taking the shot.

Interestingly enough, and I know there are numerous courteous phoneographers, I've never had either problem with a camera user, though I do consciously avoid camera mob scenes.
'nuff said

Maybe this is just a courteous area, but my experience has been that if I even look like I'm going to raise the camera people will stop short and wait for me to wave them on. In Yellowstone with foreign tourists, just the opposite.

At the San Diego Zoo, I waited...and waited...and waited for two teenagers with their selfie stick and phone to get shots of themselves with the koala in the background. I finally worked my way close enough to see the koala wasn't even in the shot. Just them with the leaves as background.....

Anyone who has ever been to a place that could even be remotely called a tourist destination has seen this.

At the end of the day the best camera is the one that you have with you.

You must live a very sheltered life. So camera users are good. Cellphone users are bad.

I have enough examples for more than both of us.

We were at the San Diego Zoo’s “Safari Park”. I arrived early for a ‘tiger training’ demo - but I selected the wrong spot, so I just moved slowly through the mob and did eventually get several shots of trainer + tiger without any cell phones in the way.

Did anyone have such experiences?

Believe me - this happened me last month. I was at the Louvre (Paris) and after being in line for about 3 hours - I finally got into the room where the famous MonaLisa painting is - I had a Nikon SLR - but everyone else had either SLR or Phone camera - I got nowhere near taking a good shot.

I used to enjoy taking photos at family get togethers, but in the day of point and shoot, people forget manners and will step right in front of you with no apology or even ‘just be a sec’. You frame focus and wait to capture the facial expression when they open a present then all the sudden your option is no shot or someones back side (not the image I’m interested in). I’ve reached the point its not worth it.

With something famous like a "Mona Lisa", you faced the 'another photograph of famous scene' issue - like the many solar eclipse photos that all look the same if they are any good, I would have photographed the mob scene.
