I have a few and whenever the need arrives, I'm glad to have them. Of course they're helpful. Most times I prefer a tripod, but sometimes they are the bees knees!

I use a monopod about 75% of the time. I shoot mostly from a scooter or other sitting position. I anchor it between my feet, it plus my in camera's "steady shot" guarantee me the sharpest images .i screw it directly into the camera and pan or tilt as necessary.
