What does "Culture" mean to you????

I believe that everyone should celebrate who they are and where they come from....Be proud.... I enjoy learning about different cultures than mine and appreciating history and the knowledge of where our story began and why we are the way we are.... I have a niece who is 1/2 Lakota Sioux...... She is one of the most proud people I know... She was raised on the reservation, learned to speak the language of her forefathers, is a champion dancer and a good example to her people.... She is a teacher, a coach, a mother and a wife...... Today I took her to a field and she danced for me.......
What does "Culture" mean to you???? br ... (show quote)

Sher, I am echoing the thoughts of everyone else when I say how lovely your thoughts are and how beautiful the photos are as well! So glad you shared them ~.

I am fascinated with early American culture as so many people bravely set out to settle in areas previously unoccupied. My submissions today were taken in Tennessee.

Hi there, fantastic photos, I liked the ones towards the end which showed so much movement it did capture something not quite sure what it was but that’s just my lack of describing it and not the photos.
These are from a festival we go to I just liked the light, it was much more intense then it appears on the photo but I was pushing and being pushed and that’s my excuse
Z
used HRT (I know but it seems apt) on the big top photo not quite sure about it yet!!

P9 Beautiful, MGs. The one on your husband's wall looks as if it could easily be a "Thomas Kincaid".

I think I will post before looking because I might not post if I do. Y'all are so good! Culture is a broad subject with lots of meaning for me - personal, regional, national, international.

What a vast array of culture......you have inspired thought about cultures that I didn't even think about....... I think that first pic is amazing.

p9 Thank you, Sher. And yes, July is a good time to come on up. The other favorite time for folks is September and October to see the foliage. Even winter is good if one likes winter sports.

Ok Sher, this is kinda weak, but I want to participate on your day and this is all I have in archives and not sure I can get anything new on this subject today that I like better.... I come from a farming community so farming is our culture...I think I got it right. I have so much mixed blood in my veins I wouldn't know where to start. I am Irish, Cherokee, and African American for sure.... so I will go with farming for now :-)

WOW! What an outstanding set of photographs. Love the movement of her outfit - so well caught.

South Africa has 11 national languages which shows how diverse the country is. Here are a couple of traditional costumes from the Ndebele - all the bead work represents some significant event in their lives. They decorate their houses in traditional geometric designs as well, so some villages are truly beautiful. Sadly with encroachment of 'modern' life these wonderful places are found less and less.

I dont have any photos of men in bowler hats with brollies which is how englishmen are traditionally represented and not being in London I doubt I will find one; in the wilds of north Devon we have farmers in flat caps! Two attached from a local village show.

Culture is the roots of traditions. Culture is also a way of life developed from the area in which we live. This area could be an entire country or only a small area but the smaller areas culture is always linked to the main culture. This is only my idea.

Here my daily language is French and I use English only on the Internet. The French I speak is of a Québec dialect and each dialect denotes another culture, although the roots are the same. This is only my idea.

Today I shall try and put my culture in photography with anecdotes.

I must say that I really enjoy learning other cultures and someone once told me that anyone who speaks with a foreign accent knows something that I do not.

Below are three photos of mine. Our early city used Normand type construction, from Normsndy of course and this style has been preserved now ever since the citywas founded.

Well I'm out ofthe city...I have shown you the roots of our culture and now I'll get into the traditions, traditions which came about due to the mother of necessity.

This is maple syrup and the unofficial spring arrival is when they start boiling. I do not know of anyone around here who has never visited a sugan cabin, or owned or worked in one. Personally I had my own for 20 years, a homemande thing, I hung ~300 buckets, just for family use, me 'n my pod. Although I no longer sugar, yearly I'm out with my pod visiting the cabins. Mostly we just drop by any cabin and walk in and yak as boiling alone is a long anddull job so the guy is happy to talk

Sher your photos of your neice are absolutely amazing in every way i can think of and that Janice already stated.

She is a beautiful girl, in a magnificent costume and you took her to a perfect place and captured her with excellence. Hard act to follow.

Janice...i like your idea of farming culture and your pics express it wonderfully...happy day to you.

sue jay beautiful colors and images of african culture and the boy with his sheep is wonderful

I really like your first one ROADRUNNER

I come from a long line of Eastern European, mostly Polish and Russian Jews. I dont know how my ancesters arrived there...but I do know about when and how they arrived here and I am third generation American. I dont practice much religion but culture is something that is inherent i think.

sometimes cultures clash and the results can be devastating to the entire world

Beautiful pictures. Mine is of the Redneck Culture. The first is of the primary means of today's weekend socialization in river valleys and hills of rural WV. Not really a stereotype, is it? Next is a Rock or Fall Cabin, and finally, we may not have Rachmaninoff, but my guess is there is a fiddle, guitar or banjo played in this Rock Lodge.

Culture! This topic really brings back memories to me. for years we spent our summers at Scottish Highland Games. My son was a drummer in a Pipe band and all three of my children were competitive highland dancers. We traveled and camped all summer long attending a different games every weekend in Canada:. Nova Scotia, PEI, Ontario, Saskatechwan, and yes, even in Quebec. In the states we traveled to Maine, New Hampshire, New York state and Massuchesuetts.
My son attended Games in Scotland twice where the Pipe band competed in the World's championships.

Some summers my ears rang with the sounds of pipes all summer long. it was wonderful!

Sorry that I added so many pictures, but it was so beautiful and so much fun. She made her own costume, had the beadworking done. She said that in the type of dancing she does, your feet move like a horse and your arms move like a butterfly......

Your series show all this and more beautiful color and light
