I'm just a rank amatuer (still learning my camera) but I really feel drawn to landscapes and nature (flowers, plants, etc). Bugs, birds, don't draw me (at least not yet). Still thinking about people photos, but not ready to delve into that yet. Di in TN

If I had to choose one subject, it would be shooting Sleddog races. So many photo opportunities: beautiful dogs, action, crowd scenes, extreme weather conditions and many other challenges for the photographer. The dogs have different personalities that I try to capture in a photo. Maybe most important, it provides a good excurse to be outdoors in the Minnesota winter.

I love these dogs in the snow...lovely shot! Perfect colors.

I like shooting sunrises and sunsets! Why, because usually I can do it alone and not be bothered with people getting in the way and asking a lot of questions.
BTW ... I have been into photography for less than 1 year now and am totally hooked!

P.S. does anyone have tips on how to photograph a ghost. :-)

Sometimes they just show up in photos without the photographer even trying.

Old farmsteads and farm equipment, from an artistic view -- not the whole building, but an eye-appealing view. To me, there's nothing like these weathered buildings and equipment to show the character and strength of those who settled rural America.

Lightening. I am not very good at it ( yet ). Darwin is supposed to have more lightening strikes during our Wet season than anywhere else in the world. Can get a tad dangerous out in the open at times but this all adds to the excitement of capturing that huge special lightening strike.

What a can of worms this subject is.
Mood in my case determines what is a favorite on any given day, Rainy days might bring to ming macro at the arboretum, Cloudy days might draw me to the local streams and waterfalls for some slow shutter action on moving water, Sunny days might find me in the woods looking for wildlife, BIF. If I find willing subjects I might take the light gear out and shoot portraits.
I guess what this all leads to is my "Favorite" is a fickle creature that depends on what the circumstances are at the times I find time to go shoot.
Should I encounter abandonandoned farms or buildings they are fair game.
Eberythin g is a photo op and I am happy to shoot what ever crosses my path

This question has been asked before but I'll ask it again.

What is your #1 FAVORITE thing to photo and why? There is no right or wrong answer........what you like to photo is the easy part......why is a little harder. I don't want to hear about #2 or #3 or...... the "everything" answer... be specific. I'll start it in the first response.

Water. From a single drop on the leaf of a plant to the granite eating Colorado River. Water. A single snow flake. A continent of ice carving away a mountain.
Water. It brings life, it gives life, it sustains life, it takes life.
Should I decide to study all the thousands of photos I've made in these last ten years I'm quite certain that every subject in those images has in some way been shaped or touched or formed by some force that began with water.

Thank you for making me think.
