Does anyone have used this lens:
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM macro
and if so, what's your experience?

Thank you for your advise.

Augie

Haven't used one, but from what I have read here and read/seen in other places, it's a very good lens.

I have it on my wishlist of lenses.

But let's wait for first hand reviews ;)

I owned the lens and sold it in favor of the Nikon 105mm f2.8 because the Sigma IS was very noisy and would scare bugs away.

I have that lens and it is excellent. As far as the noise (brucej67) mentioned that is not true in my case, quiet as a mouse.

I too have this lens and IMO it is superb. Unlike Bruce there are NO noise issues as mine is virtually silent. I highly recommend it.

You cannot go wrong if you fit the camera with a macro lens made by the manufacturer of your camera.

It is a fine lens and my understanding is that you can purchase it now at a substantial savings, jump, you won't regret it.

I also have this lens and love it. I have not had any noise issues that a couple of others have mentioned. The lens is very sharp and it is my go to lens for macro.

Bruce, That is the most succinct lens evaluation I've ever read on the Hog. Short and Sweet

What so many people just don't seem to understand is that it is almost impossible to go wrong with any macro lens because they are flat plane and so close focusing. When you enlarge anything on your sensor to 1:1 reproduction any lens just about will look great, to prove my point, here is an image of a honey bee taken with an old 28mm Minolta Celtic reversed onto tubes, it was their cheap line back in the day....

As far as the Sigma.... It is a fine lens, read a review, there is no real need to pay the added expense of an OEM when looking at Macro lenses, they are all good.
