Does anyone know a method to unlock an SD card that has had the little plastic tab broken off in the locked position? Almost all images are backed up but there are a few that I'd like to not lose. Thanks for any ideas. Steve

Transfer the pix to your 'puter, then replace the card.

Unless there's more to your problem than you've mentioned.

Thanks - I thought the locked condition might prevent that (my computer's card slot is dead). I can use my wife's computer. All good. Appreciate it. S.

Copy the card contents you wish to preserve to another location (and back them up again).

Use a sewing needle or straight pin to nudge the switch stub inside the card, if you can reach it.

Otherwise, buy another card. They're relatively inexpensive these days. 64 GB cards are $15 to $25 depending on read/write speeds. You can only buy two to four rolls of film (and no processing) for that.

Doesn't the lock tab just keep you from writing to or erasing the contents of the card? It does not keep you from transferring the contents to a computer. By the way, you can search the web and find ways to actually unlock the card mechanically after the tab has broken off.

simply put a small piece of scotch tape across the notch in the card.

...

Correct, it is a write lock, reading will still work (as long as the chip still works).
Erasing uses writing, formatting uses writing.

You don't want to write to the card you don't need to unlock it. You can always read from the card.

Like letmedance said put tape or glue a small piece of plastic where the tab was. Threre isn’t a switch in the card it is in the reader. I had a WiFi card that the case opened and the tab fell out. I inspected the card and saw that the slot where the tab slides doesn’t do any thing except holds the tab in place. I then glued in a scrap piece of plastic in the unlocked position and resumed using the card. Still working

With respect what will that do? The tab is already broken off. The OP wants to find a way to push it back up to where it belongs.

There is a sensor in the card reader that tells the reader not to write to the card if the if the slot is open, the tape will do job of closing that space to allow writing, it may have to be dark tape as I believe the sensor is led powered, there is no switch in the card body.

On my card there is a slider that must be in the correct position to allow writing. Are you saying that if the broken slider is covered with tape the card will work?
